this what can happen to 2004 sprinter with 68000m on the odometer from not being used for 2 1/2 years it was just sitting upstate New York. I bought this truck from my friend who i know good 5 years he bought this sprinter new and used to deliver some stuff but in 2007 the new sprinters came out and he bought 2 new sprinters and used them for work! This one was sitting behind the house rusting:bash: a being used as extra storage since there is no more room in the garage:) he is one of those who keeps everything what normal people trow away:rad: so i got him to sell this to me for a very low price that was not a bad price for Year and the current mileage on the van!!! plus mechanically it is in 100% strong running condition!!! so now that i have the car in Brooklyn NY its time to transform from the beast to beauty everything on the truck i did it my self except the paint job and cutting out Windows so far everything have cost me under $20000 including the rear heater for passengers!!! well after this i let the pictures speak for them self!!! everything was done on this truck the way i want the insulation panels windows this one will not have any noise retelling or squeaks :rad::rad::rad: it took 5 weeks and the truck is ready for work!!! the only thing I'm missing is REAR AC but will worry about that in late April now its time to put it to work and make some MONEY with it:cheers::cheers::cheers: so what i have is 2004 Mercedes sprinter 3500 double wheels wit hardly any mileage brand new pain job including the roof brand new interior brand new Yokohama ry215 tires to make it run faster and safe fuel rpm when down to 2700 from 3000 traveling @ 70 mph !!! 26472

Thanks for the well-done record of rust remediation.

I'd ask Daimler why NAFTA Sprinters are seemingly more prone to rust than Sprinters in other markets, but I'm not convinced we're worth the effort consider.

-Jon (who has the beginnings of rust on his 2007 Sprinter and is someone who often considers swapping the thin, brittle and inadequate German paint on his Sprinter with Made-in-the-USA Line-X).

Jon,
Funny you should mention Line-X.
I saw a red 2500 Sprinter 158 High Top the other day with a RED Line-X top (from the rain gutters up!).
I guess there may have been some sort of roof leak, so they simply Line-X ed the whole top.
Where they found RED Line-X (or perhaps it was paint over Line-X) I have no idea.

Oh yeah. There is a company here in Portland, Or that said they would do mine in white for $500. Sand it down, spray it on, and then I would go install my sun roof and boat hatch.

Still thinking about it.

Funny you should mention it, Roger :)

Most, but not all Line-X dealers only do black and/or white.

Each franchise is free to mix in pigment, to meet their location's market need.

Mine did 50/50 black and white, with an extra charge because flushing the application equipment is time consuming/labor intensive.

Thats a nice reconditioning of an older non maintained unit.
One sweet ride.
But rust is not an issue down under sorry had to put in that one to keep a balance of equity.

Looks like perhaps it had a poorly fitted replacement windscreen at some time in its life? That's the usual cause for excessive rot in that area, although eventually they will all bubble there and up the A pillars. I did some rudimentary repairs to my T1Ncan, but really the 'screen has to come out again to do it properly.

Do you get a lot of road salt in New York? We do in the UK, even worse we don't get the "sophisticated" powder stuff our european cousins do, just the cheapest nastiest rock salt available...

It's a good illustration of why you should deal with those tiny little chips as soon as you find them too isn't it? Once you've seen where the weak spots are from corrosion resistance point of view you see what good sense 100's worth of Dinitrol makes. I've done the inside of the bonnet and all over the outer/inner wing joints each side of the engine bay on my new one, as well as filling the inner wings and getting a good coat inside the wheel arch lips.

You must feel very pleased with the way its turned out, there's something hugely satisfying about taking a vehicle and "rescuing" it.

Has put a smile on my face this breakfast time - thanks!

I was already sold on the factory windows. You just sealed :smirk: the deal. I'm doing the slider for sure, and the opposite maybe. It will depend on my build. I need to check local glass shops. One nice thing about the city is labor competition. I hope I can get as good a deal in the heartland.

Are you using it for a taxi service?
