That looks nice, but for the money (Alot less) you can go to Lowes and get a section of gray commercial grade carpet cut off the roll and install it yourself. You'll spend about $100. This is what I did before I installed the shelving... I cut around the D-rings and used double sided carpet tape along the edges and center to keep it still.

I also finished it up with a loose fit plastic runner to keep the carpet in pristine shape from dirty shoes. A year later and the carpet is still new looking. Easy to clean too.

Both of you live in more arid climates.

I wouldn't consider carpet if anyone's going to walk on it with wet shoes.

I use 6x4 (or something like that) indoor/outdoor rugs to keep the moisture off the wooden floor. The carpet side can wick and hold water in the tread of my shoes, and the rubber side's non-permeable.

I thought about tacking them down with double sided tape, but they seem to stay put well enough.
