Tried to buy a 2005 Sprinter Airstream today.
Title shows year model 2005.
Yet the 8th digit from the right of the VIN is a 4 which indicates 2004.
Car Fax calls it a 2004.
I fear if I bring it into my state the VIN inspection will make it a 2004 and then I have lost a year of value.
Is there some legal explanation about chassis production date and conversion completion date?
Thanks,
Michael

Often times the chassis is a model year behind the camper model year because the camper takes a while to build.

Michael,
My Airstream is a MY 2010 Interstate but the Freightliner Sprinter chassis is MY 2008. The Certificates of Origin from both companies reflect these dates. This is perfectly normal.

all camper chassis's are a year or two behind the titles.
Even if you order a 2011 TODAY which is what one builder will take orders on it will be on a chassis they have delivered in the next few months which would be a 2010 chassis.

All Westy's are 2004 chassis'. There are only about 184 of them in the US. There are only slight variations from the first to the last so that would have more bearing on the value then what the title says. On these vehicles valuation is very subjective some value the earlier chassis higher as they have heated seats. Others like the later model running boards and alloys. Some middle chassis have none of the above.
