We traveled from our home in Virginia and "parking lot" camped at an Indiana art museum last week. My artist wife (scrupe.com) had an exhibition to mount so we loaded up a 6'X12' Uhaul and headed out for the project. Driving through the Virgina and West Virginia Blue Ridge mountains was uneventful with our fully loaded View pulling a fully loaded trailer. Averaged 12MPG and kept up with traffic. The steep hills never let us below 50MPH. The Diesel really pulls!
I had been concerned about the cold weather having never been out below freezing. All went well. Kept the tank heaters on as well as the hot water heater. Gas furnace when we were camped kept all warm and toasty. No issues to speak of other than a froze up gray tank drain valve, which released after I hit it with water from the outside.
We were gone for a little over 6 days and the propane usage was about half a tank. We ran the furnace, stove top, hot water heater and occasional generator with propane. At the site we plugged in so that the fridge, lights and TV ran off shore power. The power was not enough for hot water or microwave, hence the generator use.
All in all I am very impressed as the temps dipped to single digits.
Driving back I hit a snowstorm at night through the mountains. The Sprinter chassis really showed it's ability in this situation as it climbed and I was able to easily pass in the un-plowed left lane. It's going to take me forever to clean this thing from all the nasty road grime, but it must be done. I'll post an icy pic of it parked when I get a moment.
