   The OM647 is a 2.7 liter, five-cylinder "C"ommon Rail "D"iesel "I"njection (CDI), inline, and overhead valve diesel engine. This engine utilizes a cast iron cylinder block and an aluminum cylinder head. The engine is turbocharged and intercooled. This engine also has four valves per cylinder and dual overhead camshafts.

   A very distinguishable aspect of the OM612 from the very similar OM647 successor is its intake manifold.
