Hi Baker,

Just a thought, if you go with the inverter, then the "generator" becomes the inverter. Also a pure sign wave inverter is preferable rather than a pseudo sign wave as they are more efficient and do not generate a lot of RF interference. Also some appliances do not like running off a pseudo sign wave inverter. The pure sign wave inverter is however more expensive.

Cheers

Ross

I would love to get a pure sine, but your right about being expensive. I see Pepboys has a Vector 3000w on sale for $299. I guess I would still need to add a charger and some kind of switch to swap to shore power.

Appliance-wise, I've calculated about 27amps on the high end. I would like to be able to run a vent fan and some lighting as well. Still need to calculate amp hours, but I'm figuring I wouldn't run more than 2-3 hours in one day, 90 amp hours?

Still looking and reading....

I am 'all electric' and it works great. I purchased a xantrex 458 style inverter from craigs list (boats) and it incorporates a great charger and transfer switch.
I was able to mount it under the passenger seat.
I was able to fit 3 each size 27 deep cycle batteries outside the frame behind driver. Tight clearance but I made an angle frame tray that pivots on the front, drops down at rear for sliding batteries up and in, then jack the rear up to hanger bolts. About 375 amp hours without vehicle battery.
I tie house and vehicle batteries together with a dual battery switch (marine) when running or charging, isolate when stopped to prevent draining the vehicle battery. Van has the 150 amp alternator, so battery capacity is not an issue when running highway, so I also have a marine water heater at 1kw which holds overnite. Also can use a space heater for a while on cold mornings
The inverter was $500 and a great feature, worthy investment to eliminate lpg. Shorepower is simply a cord attachment when available.
