this may sound weird but how would i go about getting the turbo to be louder, for some reason i really like the whistle whining noise a turbo makes, last summer a guy in a obviously not stock 5.0 mustang pulled away from me and it sounded like a jet, space ship, never heard anything like that the turbo was very loud, my friend and i just laughed it was so cool, so is there any way without changing the turbo on the sprinter to get it to spool up louder?

I sometimes wonder if my turbo is even working I never owner a vehicle with a turbo. When I stump on the throttle, I do feel more power ... is it the tranny downshifting or the turbo. I don't hear any whine or whistle ... never. I guess that's great, in my opinion, as long as it is working.

Only one thing to make it louder... Get a bigger turbo... We have pretty puny turbo's on our vans... It would be very easy to put a bigger turbo on, the only problem would be reprograming the ecu...

this is where i shine...
i have a mustang that i drag race that has a turbo. the whine you hear is from the impeller and the pitch of the vanes. car companies make cars quiet for a reason. I know it sounds cool, but most "tight upper lip" customers want a quiet car, not a cool sounding one. that mustang either had a super charger with straight cut gears or a turbo, but most of the vortech and procharger superchargers used by us mustang guys are straight cut because we love the sound. i went with the turbo because its free horse power. a supercharger robs power from the crank to turn the supercharger, where a turbo is "free" power because it runs off the exhaust. but the class i race in is mostly superchargers a few of use run turbos. horsepower loss on a supercharger depends on the amount of boost you run. GOD i cant wait until april ....drag race time. i hope that 10 grand i spent this winter gets me into the 7.50s, last season i was running 8.20's we'll see soon. |

It didn't brake, it hit the rev limiter... I since have gone with a twin turbo setup... I had the single turbo for a while, but the car was deadly when that big turbo kick's in... Was doing a 100mph and the back end broke loose...
The turbo lag was also really bad... The twin turbo make more power but a much smoother power band...![]() |
