Have you comtacted MB directly, They get them to the US all the time & I've heard they send them partially assembled to get around the tax issues. Also I"ve seen taller containers at the salvage yards here in the states . Just a thought, good luck & enjoy your trip .

I run a company that specializes in shipping vehicles and parts from Europe to the usa. No help for you but my experience might be..

You HAVE to factor in securing the vehicle. It WILL move otherwise. At least chocks, and double the size and amount that you think you'll need and common sense would suggest. Seriously, double everything. If the side or roof of the van is within a few inches of the anything it will make contact as the suspension moves with the ship. It will polish paint off the metal if it's able to touch anything. And if it comes loose i can't imagine what it would do...

At that point RORO doesn't seem too bad. Securing valuables will be important, and you should expect door dings etc. hopefully it and the car in front dont fail to start as they will likely use the behind to push it off the boat, or even worse a fork lift. But as long as its reliable and the battery are okay it shouldn't be a problem. I would avoid hopping a rare car that way but a sprinter used for long travel adventures should be in its element.

HTH!

Edit: I've only been to the VW/Audi/Lamborghini ports in the USA, but they use RORO boats and then fix any damages at the port before the cars are released. I has to imagine MB do the same. I believe Ford do with the Transit Connect.
