From what I remember, when I googled the P242f code it comes up as bank 1 sensor 3 error. It also said something about a updated flash from a dealer will fix the problem from coming up.

The code is always on my 2007 3500 chassis. No limp modes and the truck runs fine.

I will call the dealer and have them run my VIN and see if I can have that update done under a recall.

The H44 recall involved the EGR valve. The info is here:

http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5597

It involves an engine control module update (flash). It extends the post-engine-shutdown EGR cleaning cycle (it occilates between mostly closed and mostly open) for a much longer time than the original programming... I think it was 20 seconds from the factory and 90 seconds after the flash....

If you go to www.dodge.com/owners you'll be able to check your 2002-2009 Sprinter VIN for undone (outstanding) recall work:

You'll have to scroll down to find the text input field which looks like this (today):

The Sprinter today went into limp mode twice on a 40 mile trip. Stopped the enginer and restarted and it went away twice. No codes are showing on the scan gauge. Have exceeded the mileage minder for oil change. May that could cause it? Not sure? Any thoughts?

What year is your Sprinter? Did you have a "check engine light" showing?

it is 2008 170 inch passenger van. No engine light of any kind. Stopped and used the Scanguage to look for codes and found none. Once the engine was restarted the limp mode went away

I do not see a category (w checkbox) for "Never had LHM in any of my Sprinters"?
Why do we only get to choose in the negative?
I've had 3 Sprinters, all were serviced on time, using the most highly suggested
Mobil 1 oils.
I have run them all in higher revs ranges than most (don't use D (overdrive/ 5th gear)
around town when the revs are < 2000 RPMs as this runs the %LOD up well into the
> 90% range.
I run them up to 3200-3800 when towing (that's the manual shift point I try to maintian
as it's where the OM-642 makes it's best power).
I will not say that I've never had a problem with Sprinter engine control systems.
My OM-647 used to simply "shut off" in high humidity >90 deg. temps when towing or
lugging along and trying to accelerate from < 2800 RPMs. ECM was changed under warranty,
and almost solved the issue but not totally. MUch better, but is still stalled a few times.
Both of my NCV3's have run flawlwessly. The 2010 had a slight miss about 4 times in 50 k
miles. Could have been during DPF regens or something.
The 2011 170" wb 3500 is an absolute "runner".
Awesome power if you keep the RPMs > 2800.
The 2011 managed to get > 15 mpg running into 20-30 knot tropical storm winds towing
the > 4500 lb. 7' wide/14' long/11' high V-nose trailer. 4th gear 1:1 ratio most of the time
with the revs in the 2800-3200 tange.
Avg mileage in the first 7k miles has been between 19 mpg and 20 mpg.
Great power, great mileage, a true joy to drive. Impressive!

Well in 80,000 +miles I've had over 50 LHM's. 4 in just the last 10 days when 2 glow plugs went out. Dealer told me that it prevented the regen mode until the GPz' were fixed and emmissions levels were normal. Just picked it up today, dropped off last night.

I've had LHM's from turbo pressure sensor problems, faulty EGR in more than one way, and EGR cooler sooted up. I've ran Howe's, RedLine RL-3, Redline diesel catalyst, Power service,Lucas, and a few other name brand fuel additives for 77k+ of the 82k on the van. Run 90% Marathon diesel with good milage. But I have yet to get rid of the NAGGING LHM's. And I was doing very well since using Redline RL-3 only , until this glow plug issue. Oil changes, maintenance and fuel filters done by the Merspec book. The Freightliner Hoekstra dealer here in Michigan is by far the best diagnosis and repair facility around the tri state area for all sprinters. Everything our dodge or mercedes shops have to order, they have in stock because they know what fails on them. Dealers won't even write on the work order limp home mode or reduced power mode to avoid the lemon law issue. I can't wait to remedy mine.

Put me down as lonely: no LHM nor codes in the first year and a half and 20,000 miles.

At the MB dealer today with the 2008 Sprinter. The sporadic limp events turned out to be due to EGR valve failure. There were no codes that I could see but the factory scanner found the code for EGr valve failure. They said they changed 6 of them yesterday and they were out of them. Fortunately a dealer nearby has some so they sent someone to pick one up. So hopefully soon we will be on our way again. Good thing is it is covered by emissions warranty

I've had the EGR replaced 3 times and the van just turned 37k miles. What is it with these EGR valve failures? Is it the poor quality fuel? Are the EU Sprinters experiencing similar EGR issues?
I've also been running Diesel Kleen for most of the 37k miles. What good is a well engineered and built diesel machine if it can't run on US diesel fuels?
