We went through all this with the Mercedes ML range (same filter as the sprinter)... MBUSA found that the ASSYST service intervals were too long (time wise) for the normal paper filters on the petrol engines only, and some filters were breaking down before the ASSYST service. So they changed to a fleece filter, but it must only be used with proper synthetic oils like Mobil 1 0W-40, and only for the petrol engines. The Diesel ML270 (OM612) continues to specify the normal paper filter. I'm not sure if thats because you didn't get it in the States, or because the Diesel doesn't have the filter degradation problem under ASSYST (IIRC the Diesel only ever runs to 1 year max interval on ASSYST regardless of miles). |

Sorry I wasn't clear, I know you got the OM612 in the Sprinter, I was just meaning you didn't get the ML270 (which also has the OM612). You only got the Petrol engined ML's in the States (you guys really lucked out there).
So I was using the ML as an example of why the fleece filters exist now, and a theory as to why they aren't specified for the Diesel engines. |

Excuse me,
Are you saying that the bosch oil filter #72204, as approved by DR. A, is actually not the correct oil filter for my 2006 dodge diesel sprinter? A response from Dr. A for clarification would be helpful.

I do not recall 'approving' the Bosch filter. I don't beleive I have ever seen one in person. I suspect the confusion surrounding this particular Bosch oil filter (seen in photo of someone's post earlier in this thread) is the result of it's external 'cage' of reinforcing, which is typically seen only on the OEM, MBenz fleece filters used for spark ignition engines only. This Bosch filter does not appear to be a fleece filter and should therefore be acceptable. BTW, I am not aware of ANY German manufactured fleece oil filters which are even dimensionally and unintentionally usable in a CDI Sprinter. Dear Peter,
Thank you for submitting your part inquiry with AutohausAZ. The Bosch W0133-1632731 filter would not be the recommended filter for your 2006 Dodge Spinter 2500. This filter is actually the Bosch replacement for the Mercedes filter part number 000 180 26 09 and would be a fleece filter. The correct filter for your vehicle would be part number 611 180 00 09 and is listed in our catalog as part number W0113-1716950. The only reason the Bosch filter come up when search that part number is because of a Mercedes cross reference that states you can use the fleece filter in place of the paper filter in certain Mercedes vehicles. __________________________________________________ ____________________ This is the filter that I got from them. At that time they didn't indicate it to be fleece 2006 2500 118 wb standard roof cargo 100000 miles |

O'Reilly had Mobil 1 0W-40 for $5.99 a qt so I got 10 and (prior to reading this) figured there was no better filter than a Mobil 1 - certainly the most expensive @ $20.99!
The filter looks nice, is a product of USA and comes with all vitron seals and o-rings....5 of them! Is there a concern with the Mobil 1 filter before I install it for another 15,000 mile oil interval? |

It's an M1C-253 filter. I have a T1N 2500 - so the 5-cyl diesel (I don't remember the engine designation on those).
