I'm thinking about having my van repainted. If you've done it (or had it done) any advice? Mind telling me what it cost? Please state size of van. Did you change the color and do all the door jambs, etc?

I got a quote from a Freightliner dealer that actually has a spray booth that my 04 2500 (longest highest) van will fit in. It was over $4,000 for respray, no body work, no door jams 2 years ago. I know materials and labor have gone up since then and that was based on $92 a hour labor. That is for a clear coat too which the original paint doesn't have.
Body work will greatly increase the labor cost. I'm sure you could find it done cheaper but finding the right guy that will do it without the spray booth is probably going to be the guy, who know a guy, who does it on the side in his garage. If you have the the short van you might have better luck, but if you have the guy who does it on the side he might let you do some of the prep to same you some money. |

I had a local quote around the $4K mark as well for my '02 158", considering that I'm looking at either wrap ( see http://www.iconographystudios.net/ma...-sprinter-van/ ) or Eastwood ( www.eastwoodco.com ) makes a decent single-stage urethane that I'll just shoot it myself when it cools off this Fall.
I've worked with 3M wrap on smaller pieces, would be easy to apply to a Sprinter but I haven't gotten a professional quote and don't really want to do it myself. |

I had my 2002 3500 painted. It was yellow (ugh), and I went to silver.

had my 2006 high top repainted - same color - no body work needed - jambs didn"t either so the cost was reasonable. I added some color to the recess panel and then clear coated the whole thing for around $900

I have just gotten a second estimate and will be going for a 3rd. '02 Freightliner 144 tall cargo with rust around the windshield, at bottom of slider and doors and surface spots breaking out. 'Will have to pull the windshield to deal with that area and also have to deal with the stupid roof seams. On the plus side, only 81K when I bought it and a good dealer behind it so other then cash issues I feel it will be a good investment. I use the van for business and it is also my primary vehicle so it needs to last. Quotes are $4100-4600 thus far. Even with the added cost, I am ahead of the game compared to many prices I have seen for used Sprinters.

There was an older thread which I remembered as being very, very good about repainting a Sprinter. While searching for it I found this:
http://sprinter-source.com/forum/sho...paint+Sprinter That lead me to the Markalexander thread I remembered. There's a bunch of great information there. Especially if you're considering doing the painting on your own. http://sprinter-source.com/forum/sho...55&postcount=2 Have fun. vic

I am having my 2006 140" high top repainted right now. I'll get pics up when I pick it up sometime this week.
The van was white and rust bubbles and scratches made by someone taking off lettering needed to be addressed. In addition, we wanted the dark blue (black blue) Mercedes color. We did the top white with rust oleum ourselves - 2 thin coats and a full thickness coat and it looks pretty good - rolled it on. Wanted to keep the top white to keep the van and solar panels we are about to install cooler. We are not having door jambs done and are getting everything but the top done as at bus company in New Hampshire for $2500. |
