I have a short 2008 Sprinter that I am converting and about to place an order. I guess I will get the one with thermostat and rain sensor. But I am unsure if I need 1 or 2. A number of installs have 2. I assume this is best when sleeping and doors and windows are shut. I am not sure if the extra 200+ is necessary or worth it. I would like to be comfortable but 900cfm for a small room is allot. I am worried about bugs but figure cracking a window not sure if the bugs can fly in with the outward pressure/draft. However if having 2 is bliss I want to know.
Can someone share opinion or experience.. Also is Camping World a good place seems they are 188 after spending $20 on a membership. |

Silence is golden to me.
Your post suggests that you do not have screened windows on your conversion. IMHO they are even more important than a fan. I've got a 158" 02 DIY that is well insulated and find a single FF over the bed area is perfectly adequate. Usually run it on the lowest setting but occasionally run it on a middle setting for a while if needed. Screening a doorway or deluxing it like our screened awning-quickshelter combo (allowing the slider to stay open) helps quite a bit and works in the rain, too. |

Thank you for your fast reply. I am about to order today. I am concerned to leave a door open while sleeping but a cracked window with the the fan blowing on the rear platform bed out should suffice(keeping out bugs). I have not decided about adding the passenger window with screens. For now I have slider glass and rear glass - no vents. I am trying to stay stealth and figure in the city if its all locked up with vents open I will be ok. But maybe I should just get one, seems like low speed flow is enough as you suggest. I assumed that having one blow in and one blow out was the solution. But was unclear if it would really be any cooler in there. Sounds like blowing it on you while sleeping is most important. Therefore I should get one and mount in rear and see.
I figured seeing how outside van runs two someone would say having 2 is a dream and I should go for it. Though Campers World NH said that one with no windows cracked (better cracked) will clear the heat. I just want to comfy while hanging out I am 100% always at the beach for the day. I would get 2, especially with no vented windows. I'm a fan of fully loaded - double layer tinted cover, rain sensor, 14 speeds, remote, etc. The vent fan the #1 important most used thing in my conversion. I wouldn't skimp over a few hundred given the total cost of these rigs.
I think Eurocampers.com has some clever bug screens for your front windows. Maybe add some wind screens above to keep the rain out. Nothing worse than having to get up, close everything in the rain, then stew in the humidity. |

I just placed the order for 2 though I got the 6000RBT with rain and heat sensor. I cant see needing the controller and not clear about the need for 14speeds. But the kick in the pants was I wont be wondering any longer over the extra $188 I spent.
The last issue I questioned: Is it a better Idea to get an AC to fit in one of these locations. I park it by my parents Cape Cod Cottage and its serves as an extra bedroom. I figure the breeze might be better than yelling at people to close the door at the beach. Better open with music playing :-) We dont have AC in the cottage either so... I also assume AC's they drain ALLOT of power. I figure I throw out the question to complete the circle for the next person asking. |

We have two fans in our 2005. With adequate insulation in the roof, one fan blowing in, and the other out we have not needed AC. Also have reflectix shades for the front windows that keep the heat out.

We have a 158" and one fan. Spend $5 on some mosquito netting at the local army store. Shut it in the door and leave one window open a bit.

We prefer using our FF to blow air out. Hot air rises after all and it is a less turbulent flow. But I still think screened T-slider windows and one FF beat two FF and the additional power draw. We typically shut the FF off after an hour's use and rely on the venting most nights. Oh, and it takes about 14 batteries to power an a/c overnight. (There was an expediter who was not allowed to idle or run a genset at loading docks overnight.) |

Curious if you got your FF(s) installed?
I was just at camping world /albuquerque yesterday for a FF install and they told me they would have to build out some sort of interior box/roof structure to support the FF ?? - to the tune of around $800 ! I had no idea what they were really referring to or what it would look like. curious if you encountered this or did you self install? does anyone else have any info on this they would be willing to share? thanks! got to get some air circulation in this thing! BTW - don't get dark color sprinter in the blazing desert without some major A/C or fans! rob |
