Default Upper bed cushion arrangement?

I would like to ask if there is someone who can explain and/or photograph the proper arrangement of the folding cushions on the upper bed? I'm quite sure that our cushions are not in the correct configuration, and its not a jigsaw puzzle I'm particularly interested in playing with. The manual is of no help on this one.

For lack of a better way of describing things, where does the hinged cushion go, and which half (small or large) faces front/back and up/down? Where does the un-hinged cushion go? In the front?

Also, has anyone had issues with the rolling panel binding while moving through its range of travel? The panel in our current van does not roll nearly as smoothly as our first. Thoughts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The small end should be the front, otherwise it won't fit. You may have to flip the mattress over to get the hinges folding the correct way. Guessing cuz I've already folded up for the day, the cloth hinge should face up. Play around there are only 2 sides to choose from.

Some of us have replaced the bed entirely; we've got two memory foam mattress toppers from Costco in place of the cushions and are much more comfortable. We left in the springs, mainly due to laziness but also because we thought they seemed like the most functional part of the system.

The big cushion with the tapered ends should face forward into the tapered snout of the roof.

The folding cushion should have the velcro "hinge" on top such that it bridges the gap between the cushions.

With some practice, you can leave sheets and a duvet on the bed at all times. Remove your pillows and any extra stuff from the bed area first. To fold the bed, pull the whole mattress toward the rear of the van. Fold the pair of cushions such that the hinge is flush with the end of the bedframe. Shove the whole lot forward, flip up the latching cover up.

You now still have quite a bit of room up there for pillows and other soft items.

Ted, thanks for the very detailed reply, much appreciated!

Another question: does anyone else have one corner of the largest (and rearmost) cushion that is clipped at an angle? I don't remember this from our first Westy, but it looks entirely original and intentional. I can only speculate that this is some sort of hand-hold to make grabbing the cushion easier? I don't know, I'm a little stumped...

The removable cushion on the lower bed has a "clipped" corner as you describe. Perhaps you somehow have two lower-bed cushions?

Ted -

Very good deduction! I have been trying to think of something that would explain a "clipped" corner but you may have pegged it.

If minigoogoo does not have two of the lower-bed cushions maybe the cushions have just been swapped?

Does the cushion behind the bench seat seem to fit wrong?

Although the lower bed cushion does not have a fold point so that may undermine the swapped cushion theory.

After a few test fits and flips, I've got the cushions installed correctly. What I thought was a single 'clipped' corner turned out to be symmetrical tapers on both edges of the rearmost cushion. The padding was a bit bound up within the cushion casing, so it seemed like an uneven/asymmetrical 'clip'.

The tapers are clearly intended to address the fit of the rearmost cushion as it slides forward into the narrowing bed space closer to the front of the van. With this in mind, there is really only one way to arrange all of the cushions.

This was not at all obvious before the pieces fell into place-- but it is very much so when installed right!

Thanks all.
