Out of curiosity, what did the new EGR valve cost for your van?

hy,
dealer in Quebec said 1200$ Can + 14 % taxes. So bought the egr valve new on ebay for around 430$ + taxes.

I wish mine was that clean! Nice write up and photos. Here is a pic of mine, I pulled it off a while back and cleaned it up to repair the LHM problem I was having.

2003 passenger van 103,000 miles
Very good photos... is this your first replacement? I have replaced the EGR valve once at 70,000 miles, and have had to clean it every 30,000. Do you do mostly highway driving? I have heard that prolonged idling will soot-up the EGR quickly (though most of my driving is highway, and must clean/replace the valve at fairly frequent intervals). If it keeps the soot out of the air, it is worth the trouble (though MB improved the design in 04, thereby admitting to flawed engineering). E-bay is the best place to purchase an EGR, it is about $600+ at the dealer.
