I would suggest a horn that can produce a sound for each situation.

For example, one common situation is a distracted driver that does not see that the light has changed to green. A loud obnoxious noise would reflect poorly upon the person who generated it. Therefore you should be able to set the horn to generate a gentle attention getter, perhaps a sound like a star trek computer saying, in a sweet voice, "Hey honey, the light just changed.

and of course, different settings for each situation, keeping in mind that being a loud rude person reflects well neither upon the person who so behaves nor upon his upbringing.

Griot's Garage has three types to choose from. Stebel, Hella and a US style, decent prices. Link to Griot's: http://www.griotsgarage.com/category...accessories.do

Stebel makes electric as well as air horns. If you go to the stebel site, they have samples of the horns:

Wolo has a good site, they even list the db's of their horns. Wolo has a huge selection and sample sounds, too:

it might be fun to have a loud horn, but when could you use it?

I have wished to have a loud horn when seeing a driver who appears to be in an alcoholic daze or does something very very stupid, but that is rare.

Otherwise, in regular usage, you might give somebody a coronary.

The horn on the Sprinter sounds like an anemic road runner. I can't believe a vehicle this large has a barely audible horn. My '66 Beetle has a better horn. I too am going to update the horn, probably dual electric horns - I don't like the delay in an air horn.
If you want air horns with some flavor, Wolo has this model that will play different tunes.

Thumbs up Re: Any suggestions for a really loud or unusual horn?

Covering a few posts with 1 reply:
- Where would you use it? (Punter): Here in New England USA there is a small fraternity of drivers, typically in a really, really small car, that accelerate, pass you, cut back in front of you, hit the brakes and then catch the highway exit. That is one example that comes to mind.
- Richard: leaving the 1 off of Corinthians is the Sprinter equivalent of leaving the 1 off of 229.5

Lots of great input. I'm leaning toward a horn in the lower sounding tones - "big truck" or, especially, train sound. This forum is great for some really in depth answers and "access to tools". Keep the great responses coming!

I found it! http://www.carparts.com/ALPEX-BULL-A...#CommunityTabs
Had one of these bull horns years ago on a pickup truck. It's manual so you can give off anything from a "soft moo" or an enraged bull sound.
Got a lot of smiles in the past while still making a point. Will have to check if there's enough activator cord length to reach inside.

Well, finally made the moooove today after a year of not really seeing what I was looking for. The new bull horns sound nothing like the clean sound of the original I had many years ago so went with something new. Ordered a new horn from JC Whitney: ANIMAL HOUSE ELECTRIC HORN & PA SYSTEM Used the discount code BUYJCW7 and knocked about 7 bucks off the price. I also like the idea of the microphone for ordering food at a drive up with the window shut when it's raining. Saw this horn in another thread on the forum.

I'll need to figure out how to install it (electrical) next. Hmmm . . .

Just saw this thread... I'm interested in one of those horns as is used by the cars in the Tour de France. Distinctive but not obnoxious.... Anyone in Europe know of one?

Cool! I haven't gotten mine installed yet. Just not enough hours in the day...
I think this horn can do so many things- It's got a bunch of animal sounds , but it's also got police and fire sirens and car alarm sirens. But I think the best part is the microphone. That's perfect for whatever situation you encounter. Oh, and it's got the "Ice cream truck" music, too. Can't wait to pull a few pranks with that one

The stock horn is so quiet that I think it is a danger to users. It does almost nothing to alert other people that you are there.
I use an inexpensive pair of Fiamm horns. $17. Way louder and more noticeable.

I have these on my '72 Moto Guzzi too.
