Just got my Garmin EcoRoute HD device today, and immediately connected it up to the OBD port on my 2004 Sprinter Westfalia. After a few minutes of searching, via wireless Bluetooth, for my Garmin 1490T GPS, VOILA!
I now have a nice set of auxiliary gauges on my GPS screen, customizable for such things as RPM, mass air flow, coolant temp, engine load, intake air temp, and a few others. It also features some basic diagnostic stuff; I didn't mess with that at all, and anyway, I have a DAD for that. Not sure how it compares with the ScanGauge device, but for 150 bucks, it's pretty slick, and the wireless connection is very nice. You have to make sure your GPS has the latest update to support the HD device. If you use the EcoRoute feature (which is supposed to make you a more efficient driver), the fuel consumption calculations are more accurate, since it's using real-time data from the vehicle, instead of constants that you manually inputted. Here's some info on it: http://garmin.blogs.com/pr/2010/01/g...nchId=newsroom A bigger pic of the gauges: http://garmin.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8345...6a702b7970c-pi Highly recommended!!

Thanks for the report. Supposedly the ecoRoute HD is going to work with other Garmin Nuvis that have bluetooth. I would love to have these features on my Nuvi 765T.

When this was announced early this year I wrote Garmin customer service about availability for use with other Nuvis. I was told that more units might become compatible after the initial introduction. If your unit has Bluetooth and can run the ecoRoute software there is some probability that eventually Garmin may provide an update that will allow it to use the ecoRoute HD. It crosses my mind to purchase it and see if it works. So far, I haven't taken that challenge.

Too bad it don't have EGT? I guess our Benz's don't have pyros on them either?
![]() But I think it would be nice to have considering our vans are really lacking in the gauge dept. Does it do driving directions as well?

Yes the Garmin EcoRoute does a great job, not only as a GPS accessory, but gives fuel economy as well, which was a major question for me.

I've always been a bit of a nut on mileage, so this would be great. I've always found it annoying when the router will pick 70 miles of 65 mph over 50 miles at 55 to save a minute or two. But my Quest is way too old and for 98% of my driving I already know the best and/or most economical route.

After some heated email exchanges with Garmin, it seems that their web site is extremely vague in regards to ecoRoute and ecoRoute HD. They have used those terms interchangably, but finally told me that my Nuvi 1300 LM is not compatible withe the HD version of the ecoRoute. I will replace it with the Nuvi 1390 LMT.
Now to the really good part. Fortunately, I purchased the Nuvi from www.cruthfield.com, and they immeditely offered a refund or exchange. I have never in my entire life experienced such exceptional custeomer service, but their prices are most competative as well. I highly recommend them for any of their consumer electronics product purchases. |

If you have gotten it configured how does the MPG meter look? I saw the engine load and RPM, but I am curious how well the Instantaneous and Average MPG displays are working. I just purchased the UltraGauge and have been disappointed in it's calibration. Out of the box it says I am getting 10 MPG on the highway. I am hoping to be able to get it calibrated, but I may only have a 50% sway to work with and won't be able to get it accurate. I have never owned a ScanGauge, but the iPhone SW I tried at first claimed I was getting 6 MPG on the highway so it seems like OBD II port readers are unable to do Diesel MPG out of the box.
