I can't tell you how many times the taller roof saved me.

Here is another idea for you. Sportsmobile makes a Pop Up roof for the standard roof models. It comes in either a manual or power operation and can incorporate an upper level bed. See it on their website, www.sportsmobile.com
I've sold 4 standard roof models in the past 60 days that Sportsmobile has added the pop top. Great for Tailgating. Dave |

Cost / benefit...that is the question you need to ask yourself.
Is the additional cost worth the benefit? And I do not mean just the absolute cost of the roof and MPG. I mean the whole cost. Your local dealer has one the lot...in Alaska with two doors...since it is on the ground, they need to sell. A special order does not provide the additional added incentive to the dealer to sell the unit. Hence you lose bargaining power. Price out a special order unit to the one on the ground…then decide. I own a 144 low roof with rear A/C…I can make most drive-ins….barely…with high roof…no way. I drive on the plains and in the mountains…and the Sprinter does catch wind…I can only imagine that the high roof would be worse. I do not care what anyone says…buying a Sprinter is no different than any other car…If they have a vehicle on the lot…invoice...been there over 30 days…$500 below invoice…$1000 below for anything over 100 days….the longer on the lot….the bigger the discount. Never ever pay invoice plus. Note: this does not always apply to high demand cars such as a Honda which rarely stay on the lot for any period of time. Sprinters are not high demand vehicles. Right now MB is building the brand again…they want to move units and if your dealer will not deal…call around…be willing to travel or have the vehicle shipped. When I bought my ’08 from Dodge, I called several dealers…some want to charge sticker…even after the rumor came out that MB would take the brand back…they would not budge…finally I found a dealer in CA that went several thousand below invoice…to them after 100 days it was stale inventory that they wanted to move. Dealers make money on the vehicle generated annuity stream, financing and service work…one may not think that dealers make money off warranty…but they do…the more units they sell, the greater the annuity stream. …Think of it as the razor blade of the 50s…give the razor away….make the money on the blade. I love my Sprinter and am in the market for a second one. I have already started shopping around…and yes some dealers are dealing….with units that are on the ground and have been there plus 30 days….and yes I am being quoted below invoice prices. I wish you Godspeed in your quest.

high roof...I ordered one and got it 3 weeks and 2000 miles ago. I can get out of the drivers seat, walk into the back, put leashes on the 3 dogs, open the slider and walk out into the world like I'm walking out the front door of my house. It's priceless...

MB currently does not import the truly "short" (120 inch wheelbase) Sprinter to the North American (NAFTA) market. I've got a 2005 "short/short" model ... 118" wheelbase. 16' long (plus 6" step-bumper), shorter than many pickup trucks. It turns with a 16' radius. Like "brucetheparishiltonfan", my own 5'9.5" height makes the slight tilt of the head quite tolerable. I fear that if it were taller or longer, my wife would want to carry -more- stuff for her booth at street fairs (16 tables is quite enough, thank you...) http://rseymour.home.wolfenet.com/sprinter/ --dick p.s. when it's not loaded for fairs, we put in a Flexsteel fold-a-bed, a microwave, portapotti and go on month-long trips. low roof won't fit in a garage anyway, I have a high roof and have been in 60 mph winds, I may lose a mile or two a gallon but the comfort inside is worth it.

Can the dealer swap with another dealer for what you want?

Have a 08 144 low with Sportmobile pop-up and at 6' 2" it fits fine when top is sprung. I would like to add a rear A/C and have a question .... has any one mounted an A/C to a rear door or side panel?
Thanks |
