What is the MPG on your Sprinter?

Ok, you guys can help me with a little research. I know the Sprinter has best-in-class fuel efficiency by far. I have heard that the 2007-2010 diesel Sprinters can get as much as 25 MPG. Dodge advertised 19-21 MPG on the 2500s. What is the average MPG in your Sprinter loaded or empty?

Does anyone own a Chevy Express/GMC Savannah or Ford Econoline? What is your MPG comparison?

Thanks and look forward to seeing the results.

Overall, I get 19 average. That is around town but not stop and go traffic

Nasty stop and go, 17 ish

Overall 19.5

Highway 21

Highest trip milage no major hills, all interstate 23.

Hope this helps

~21.5 on the highway at 67 MPH (GPS speed), I pick up 1-2 MPG if I draft off semis.

I do have a 2003 which gets more MPGs than the 2006 and up it seems.

6 speed manual gearbox with inline 5 cylinders 2.5TDI Crafters engine, axle ratio 3,692 gives me 22-26mpg when I reach 140km/h -150km/h(85-94mph) on the highway droping to 18mpg

i was getting 20.5 ave, then i put 2 cross bars on the roof for ladders, and i dropped to 19.5-19.75 (no ladders on roof) 2008 2500. I bought the van new, and mpg has been consistent from mile 1, there was no improvement after break in miles

I use portlandgasprices.com to keep track of my fuel costs and mpg. In 09 I think I averaged around 22/23.

I can hardly wait to compare it to my 2010 after using WVO & home made biodiesel for a year :bounce:.

2009 $2100 in fuel. In 2008 I didn't keep track but I bet I spent upwards of $3500 in fuel. The goal in 2010 ..... less than $1000!!!!!

My sprinter van is hardly ever loaded to its capability which is probably why I have the mileage I do.

Our T1N's (2500 wagon 140" wb) get 19-20 mpg running mostly on the interstate at 70 mph. One of our 2006's is at 200k miles and still hasn't had (and doesn't need) its first brake job.

Our 170 NCV3's get 17-18 mpg running mostly on the interstate at 70 mph.

Our 144 NCV3's get 18-19 mpg running mostly on the interstate at 70 mph.

I believe the 170 has poor mileage because of the substantially larger cross-sectional area and the extra 600# of steel on the rump.

2006 - 2500 - 140 wb - std roof - loaded, lots of stop & go - 22- 24 mpg

2001 Chev 2500 lwb - 12 mpg w/tailwind

2009 chev 2500 lwb - great improvement - 13 - 14 mpg.

Took ladder off sprinter because it dropped mpg by 2.

Is this the norm for the lwb cargo: 13-14?

At what speeds?

This ladder you're talkin' about, is it on the rear door leading to the roof?

So the 4x4 extended lwb cargo at X speed should yeild what: 10 mpg?

Thanks

Speeds - some interstate, some neighbor hoods getting to service calls. High 70 mph low 30 mph

Ladder - 22 ft extension on roof rack mounted to drip rails.

4x4 - :hmmm:

The main reason we bought the 09 chev was because of the Dodge dealer. It has been in the shop (warranty) several times so far. Trans replace & 2 different modules. Other reason, one of our customers is the service drive manager (got good pricing)

I think you are primarily interested on the 07-10 models.

The pre 07 had better fuel economy with the less restictive pollution controls.

The 5 cylinder engine would not pass the current regulations.

The V6 will not ever get as good milage as quoted by owners of T1N's.

There is of course a noticable difference with the higher roofs.

My real world milage is more like app 18mpg, and I am not complaining at all.

A lot of this is at 70 + mph.

2010 should be excluded from the quotations as to being a SCR Blue-Tec in the N/A sector.

Simply put it was a 5-in-line lower HP
The 5 cylinder engine would not pass the current regulations.
Correction it did as to ERG 2010 if the 5-in-line was bought back SCR N/A Lower HP and Nm torque,it would pass.

Bigger engine more HP stands to reason hence 4-inline engines.

Yes and Length including Loads and variants 2500 v 3500:Fuel and condition of engine +speed.

Not bad considering 70 is on the not so economy scale:clapping: 24MPG has been recorded in the U.S on NCV on this forum.
My NCV 06 did 24 US MPG consistently before it drowned, but it also had the V6 with Higher HP and torque Euro 4 with particulate filter. LWB Medium Hi top always carried a full two tonne on board.
My 05 4-inline MWB low top manual still does 33U.S MPG but can be as low as 22MPG on a mountain range 27 MPG in Urban and 24 around the CDB
It vary's on speed loads and how far you push the rpm with turbo boost.

My '02 MWB, SRW high top passenger (16" wheels, 3.73 diff, 195k miles now):

70 indicated max; 22.5 US mpg w/o cetane boost (~120k mile avg), 23.2 mpg with (~17k mile avg)
60 indicated max; 25.5 US mpg w/o cetane boost (~8k mile avg), 26.5 mpg with (~58k mile avg)

These include all driving, city and highway - very seldom faster than the noted max.

About 95% of my driving is on the highway at 70~75mph, carrying about 1,200~1,500 lbs of people/stuff. I now have a little over 23K miles on my Sprinter ('08 low-roof passenger model), and my overall average is 18.7mpg.

It appears that all passenger Sprinters get lower MPG. Possibly due to the air conditioning (I assume most have rear air). Also, if they are used for business people movers, instead of for family use (lighter load), I would think the mpg would drop.

Yes, I am interested in the 2007-2010s primarily, but the 06 and back info is very useful.

Keep em coming, thanks for all the feedback.

Passanger MY08 144 low roof with rear air...used as everyday to/from work...weekend and vaction family hauler....19.2MPG (highway/city mix)....a note of interest...last vaction in December when hauling a 3500 pound trailer for vaction...mileage stayed above 19...but most of that trip was highway...
