Espar Auxiliary Heater

The following is archival:

The Sprinter van has an (optional) auxillary heater mounted right below
the front driver's side headlight--the Espar Hydronic D5WZ. As far as
I know, all Westfalias imported into the U.S. have this option.

In the Westfalia, this van auxillary heater is controlled by an on/off
switch in the central console (where the transmission shifter is
located). When the switch is switched on, the heater will run for 2
hours before shutting off automatically (or will shut off automatically
if the coach battery voltage drops below a certain amount--around 10
1/2 volts or something?).

[Note: On some Sprinters, this heater can be controlled by an optional
7 day timer which is located in the central console (where transmission
shifter is) in the little rectangular coin box.]

A 9 page installation pamphlet for this heater can be found at:

http://www.espar.com/htm/tecmans.htm

(Note: The pamphlet has a diagram showing the on/off switch as the
lower half push/push of the A/C circular switch (the residual heat
button used after engine is turned off to get leftover engine heat)
rather than the toggle on/off switch in the central console. The
horizontal middle bar in the A/C circular switch is to be used in
really cold weather to get the engine to heat up faster--maybe that's
what the reference is to?)

On the Yahoo Sprintervan Group, there have been several postings about
this heater, including some problems and DIY fixes.

Haven't had the chance to look carefully into what the differences are but the following is documentation concerning Espar Hydronic B5WSC heater.

Looks like the first difference is this heater is mounted in a VW badged vehicle. Still has some potentially useful photos and electrics diagrams.

May be of some use to folks so I am posting a link here:
