Knowing what you are driving and that you have winter driving experience are real plus factors.
You could upgrade your rear tires to the Michelin LTX MS2 or the new Defender MS2 and save the rear Kumho's for later use
on the front.
As far as the "chains required in some states" you don't have to have the chains, but when you reach the sign that says you have to have
them, you cannot go any further without getting a ticket.
You can normally turn around and go back to the nearest town and wait until the road opens for vehicles without chains.
