2006 Sprinter 140 Tall I just went out looked a bit better. The box has 4 wires. Black, yellow/Blk, Green/Blk, Red. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b384/tvnewsnj/5.jpg The Black and the Red wires go into the dash and look like they each to to a quick tap to other wires (I'm assuming power but I didn't check with volt meter). The Green / Blk and the Yel / Blk go a few inched to this plug: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b384/tvnewsnj/4.jpg Last night I had not tacked the wires. That plug is on the back of this: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b384/tvnewsnj/2.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b384/tvnewsnj/3.jpg I have to get an owners manuel so I don't know what this device is? This is mounted in the center of the dash and to the right of the shift lever. And the last gray wire is just draped around under dash and up passenger door post with no connection, I assume antenna. Maybe this info will help figure out what this is? Thanks Dean |

An interesting article. I've never had any interest in adding a remote starter, but I wonder if the mouse that grounded the parking brake sensor, also got the wiring for the driver's door? It hasn't worked for a while, but I don't remember if it happened around the same time. Believe me, having the brake alarm whining constantly tends to focus your attention.
Your pictures should make it easy to figure out.

Almost certain that it is an alarm or at least keyless entry. The module you pulled out looks very much like the parking and head lamp switch. They tied into the parking lights there.
You dont need it and it can be removed. Just dont leave any wires exposed. I take it back, they tied into the door lock wire module. Yours just looks a lot different than mine. Last edited by skydiver007; 08-04-2012 at 01:44 AM. |

Your mystery box may be a "remote start" unit re-purposed to turn on the Auxiliary Heater remotely. If you could identify the colors of the wires that your mystery wires attach to, that might confirm its purpose. It's definitely NOT "official MB equipment" (no three-pointy star, for one thing...) Owners Manuals can be downloaded from www.dodge.com A useful complete service manual for the 2003 and 2006 can be downloaded from: http://aie-services-2.net/Sprinter/ (chapter 8w has the wiring diagrams, with color codes) --dick

..to provide the additional assistance of telling him where to find the owner's manual (which he sought) and the service manual (which would've helped).. and adding those links takes longer to type. Quote:

Ok, I got my hands on an owners Manual. The green / black and yellow / black wires are going to the plug that plugs into the back of the TIMER FOR AUX HEATER. The two wires go directly into the plug like they were factory. This is the plug and you can see those two wires http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b384/tvnewsnj/4.jpg As you can see that plug has several wires. The two wires from my box have there own positions on the plug and are not tapped into any other wires. The Timer has a name of "HELLA" on the back. I'm thinking you are right about it being some type of remote for that aux heater timer. Do you think maybe even a way to start the vehicle via the heater timer? Thanks to everyone for helping. ![]() The heater controller does not have any wiring that would crank the starter. Now, if you found wires leading to the connections around the ignition switch, and a hidden key somewhere near the ignition key slot to make the RFID SKREEM module happy... that would be interesting... HELLA is a well-known European car electrical-and-electronics manufacturer (your headlamps may be Hella). Think the breadth of product line of "Lucas", but with better connotations.... --dick

I'll have to dope out the two wires going to the heater timer from the receiver box. Maybe I can use those wires and add a transistor switch and use your method and I'll convert the heater remote to a door lock remote system. Thanks to everyone for the help. Dean |
