Any smoke from the tailpipe? If yes, what color?

Does it idle smooth or rough? Does the flow from the tailpipe feel smooth and continuous at idle or does it puff? If rough or puffing, then I'd suspect a bad injector or two (type2teach has posted a shade-tree test). Black smoke means too much fuel or not enough air. If not injectors, could be many things. Probably best to have someone with a capable tool (DRB-III, DAD, etc.) scan for codes and look at operating parameters to see if any are out of range.

That also could be describing a clogged EGR valve. You may want to take it off and clean it (I have a 2002 - it uses the same EGR Valve your 2003 has - I clean mine every spring). 2002/2003 EGR Valves have a reputation of clogging up, but are pretty easy to clean. I use spray SeaFoam, others have used Carb Cleaner (I would avoid brake cleaner since it removes all oil, and you really want a little lubricant to allow the mechanisum to move freely).

Europarts SD has the gaskets (made of metal) for all of the T1N EGR valves.

Is it the WGA or is it the vacuum lines not actuating it because they are cracked? If you already got it, good. Glad it was easy for you.......

WGA == Waste Gate Actuator?

I didn't know US/Canadian Sprinter turbo chargers had waste gates.

Turbo exhaust inlet vane positioner, which for the NAFTA '02-3s (OM612) is vacuum-actuated.
