Has anyone installed a rear spring assist kit(Sprinter Store ) on a Roadtrek RS model? If so is the U shaped end of the waste water tank a problem with the installation?

I have a 2008 extended high roof ERA conversion that comes in close to 8k lbs fully loaded. Just installed Timbren springs fron and rear and initial impressions are positive. Leaving tomorrow for a 3k mile trip out east, mostly NYC etc. Should be a good test. Last run on these roads yielded some real issues with bottoming out.

I will be anxious to hear how this helps. I assume your vehicle is close to the gross vehicle weight when loaded.

Yes it is, w/o humans 7900 lbs normally loaded for travel.Max GVW is 8500. This is why almost all the newer conversions are on 3500 dual wheel chassis.
Still, I never liked dual wheels. I have been told little difference in the brakes and axles on the 2500 vs 3500. Softer spring rates the issue. I think the front end on a 2500 is really stressed when at max GVW. Leaving tomorrow for the 3k round trip including NYC. That should be a real good test. So far around town and some highway very impressed with the ride and I do not worry about taking it up to max GVW and bottoming out. |

My 2500 RV is over gross for the front axle and gross for the vehicle with fuel, 50 lbs of propane, two people, 30 gallons of water, and 150 lbs of cargo for camping. These springs look like they are easy to install too.

Ok, passing through into NYC. 1k miles so far aqnd some in very strong cross winds.
1. Much better control in all factors. More like a regular van. Much easier to corner, handle cross winds at highway speeds and less rocking motion overall. 2. Bounces on large bumps, previous stock springs bottomed out. So, exceeding expectation so far. |

Richard,
Is there any additional drivers licensing requirement in AUS/TAS/NZ for air brakes? Here in the good old USA you would need a CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with an "Air Brake" endorsement to drive the "beast" in your photo (616 Sprinter I believe). Normally there are no air brakes (except on school buses) for vehicles > 13 tons (26k lbs).

Upscale Automotive installed the rear springs, sway bar and Kona shocks on my 2008 RT RSA with superb results. Marked improvement on bad roads, curbs, parking lot dips, and in side winds. But yes, they did have to shift the water tank due to rubbing on the spring. Upscale recognized the problem right away and took care of it during the install.
The only other thing I did to improve the ride was switch to Michelin LTX M/S 245/75R16s at 50/65 front/rear PSI. Absolutely marvelous now. |
