Can anyone in the Seattle recommend a reliable repair shop for my 2005 Sprinter.
I am having a "Hot-Start" problem that replacing the Glow-Plugs did not solve. Last edited by ifd98125; 10-11-2011 at 07:56 PM. |

check the camshaft sensor. I know one guy he had the same problem for six months, until I checked his 2005 Sprinter with DAD. DAD said Camshaft positioning sensor. Sensor was replaced, problem solved. Also, that guy told me that he bought the camshaft sensor from the newer model (2007 up). He said that they are the same, the only difference is the price - for 2007-2011 more than twice cheaper.

Camshaft sensor is the first step I too know someone took a fan with him to cool down the motor / found that this $30.00 camshaft sensor was the headache after many trip to the shop never found replacing many other parts. Lots of money in the trash. And add a ground wire to motor to battery ground post. Or keep jumper cable to jump motor to battery ground post to start if you have 1 click on a relay turning the key. This is a bad grounding system. Jumping from other auto's will not help @ battery.

Lynnwood Mercedes spendy, of course, snotty service manager. But great mechanics. Not sure what the glow plugs would help. I'd suspect the starter?

I wouldn't doubt that that new glow plugs didn't help because they aren't necessary for a hot start. It could be one or more leaky injectors or a failing camshaft position sensor. Does it have the original starting battery? Low cranking voltage will cause non-start issues.
You have a choice of two MB Sprinter dealers nearby, MB of Lynnwood and MB Tacoma. If you head down to the Portland area, there's McCoy Freightliner and Upscale Automotive. MB dealers aren't cheap, but from what I've read, their service is decent. Byron |

I haven't used them (i used to ferry a friend there for his Jeep), but Town and Country Chrysler on Aurora Ave N took over the area's Dodge service obligations when the local Dodge dealers collapsed.

I sent a member with a T1N start problem to MB of Lynnwood.
They fixed it right the first time, after the independent shops wasted a fair amount of time and money experimenting. This member is a business owner and he was happy with the result. If it's important, take to the professionals with access to the best Sprinter information (for all US model years) and - by now - probably the most experienced shop in the Puget Sound area. -Jon
