In defense of the mechanic, he told us that the bypass wire was only a temporary fix so we wouldn't have to use a ball point pen to shift the vehicle out of Park. We knew when we left the shop that we didn't have brake lights, they even made us sign a release. They assumed that we would return to have the problem completely fixed in a few days. We would have done just that but the problem was we didn't have a ton of faith that they would find the answer quickly and we couldn't afford the $150 labor rate while he randomly probed wires.

Knowing the little bit that I know now, it does kinda suck that we spent $900 for a wire that basically just tricks the computer. Guess we should've stuck with the ball point pen method after all
