Hi. I have a 519 LWB 4x4 drop side tray. I have a Palfinger hydraulic crane that I intend to fit. Question is up by cab or at back of tray. Anyone one care to share ideas or experience of cranes in either position. Pro & Cons?
Just general lifting and motorbikes. Cheers KB |

Left hand side facing cabin Centre of gravity.JPG If used at rear right or left a supporting jack will be required for a crane lift irrespective of weight limits of Center of Gravity as the risk of compressing the rear parabolic spring set and damaging the said springs. It is a good question, and the answer is go for rear if you want to reach into sheds or pick up on the road. But if you want to be able to carry cars you have to go for the front mount. When mounting on a sprinter it is best to avoid clamping around the shassis as it can crush, Take all the load into the tray and stabiliser legs. Run the pump from its own battery, and charge that battery from the alternator via a relay energised from the D+ terminal, Sprinters do not like low battery volts when starting. Eric |

Eric with respect, if you bothered to understand the Sprinters dynamics as to tolerances of the guideline parameters, there are exacting mounting points for the Hydraulic stabilizer bars.[IF USED?] or 'If' drilling into the chassis rail is required then the highest point towards the tray,{eg} top rail there is a clear-directive provided by Benz and certificated to ISO standards,of which includes bracketing. The tray provided by Benz is alloy, the real strength lays in the optional H/D 6 plus mil weatherproofed Masonite composite on top of the tray.
