Sorry for the first post being a question.
A couple of days ago my blinkers ( indicators ) stopped worker buit the hazard lights did . Replaced the blown fuse and they worked for about two turns . Now whenever you replace the fuse and then turn the ignigtion on the fuse blows , without even turning on the blinkers. Dose anyone have any suggestion as to where to look for the problem. |

hello and welcome.
if the fuse is blowing then you need to find where its being shorted, have you had any worked carried out on the van?either by you or someone else? check the lights themselves in case either the bulbs or the holders might have water or corrosion damage.is the cables ok coming from those lights ie passing true the body they are not pinched?you will need to be carfull because you dont want a fire happening,so do a physical check first without putting the fuse back in. keep us posted.

No town bar fitted ,no work done resently. I am unsure as to how there could be a wiring or bulb problem as the hazard light work which is the same bulb and most of the wiring. The thing that has me puzzeled is without even turning the indicators on it now blows the fuze ??

could there have been a spill over the steering column either you or someone else?
your just going to don your sherlock holms hat and trace the wiring to find the problem,id start with the lights themselves and work back. are there any other fuses being blown while this is going on?stick a multimeter across the battery and see if there is a dodgy current being drawn.

With all circuits I've worked on the power is routed from the fuse to the switch and then to the item controlled by the switch. I would find out what color wire is suppose to come from the fuse to the switch and check that for a ground to the frame.
That part of the circuit would be hot all the time and if shorted would blow the fuse as soon as its energized. ![]() Dan |

Graham.
As you say its not the lights because the hazards work. The link between the hazard switch and the blinker switch is just a plug and unlikely to be a problem, there may be a short in the blinker switch itself but more likely some other cct that is fed by the same fuse is faulty. I dont have the cct in front of me at the moment as I am travelling and about 3000 from home but some one with a cct may tell you what other ccts are fed from that fuse. What I do in your situation is to solder some wires onto the blow fuse and then connect a buzzer to the wires, the buzzer will sound when the short is present. Then move any likely loads untill the buzzar stops. Eric |

This is what I have for the NAFTA T1N 2004 - 2006 model. It may be similar in other T1N's?
There are also full service manuals list in the T1N database which are available on-line. vic 012FuseBlock#1wNotes.jpg 013FuseArrangementBlock1and TurnSignal.jpg 014TurnSignalActivation.jpg

What model year is your Sprinter?
(so that we can look at the correct wiring diagrams) *Which* fuse blows? The Sprinter has multiple fuses feeding the central timer module, and often has parallel systems for things like the hazard blinkers (so one relay would be blinking the turn indicators, but a totally different relay could be blinking the hazards) Frozen relay contacts can cause problems, wire bundles under the Sprinter can get hit by a rock, the plastic taillight assembly can get hit from inside the cargo area and dislodge the current-carrying copper strips. The Central Timer Module can have internal problems. There are *lots* of places for the indicator circuits to get strange. --dick

Problem solved
Electrical gremlin has moved out of truck and into my house!!!! I removed the washer bottle disconected the washer pump and removed the side indicator above the wheel I put a fuse in and it did not blow and the indicators worked. I refitted the washer pump and indicator and everything worked .Go figure what was wrong ?? While I was working on the truck solving the electrical problem one of the house circuits went out ! Yep the electrical gremlin had left the truck and gone to the house, wire burnt out behind fuse board . You got to love the electrical gremlin !!!! |
