rear axle bearings and seals??

I have a leaky axle between backing plate and axle and some slight growling noise. was wondering if anyone has ever changed out their rear axle bearings and seals. I looked on the manual and it looks like i'll need a special tool. where do I buy it? Any ideas on where to buy parts? thanks in advance. will post my results when done.

Hi. Do you have the single rear wheels or dually?

You can look for pricing at:

If you find a wholesale Dodge dealer you may get it for less.

The tools are expensive.

I have a right side seal that weeps a bit of fluid but I have left it alone after giving it a cleaning with brake cleaner. The bearings are still good.

Blacksmoke,
Not that you asked.... I don't know if other than MB bearings and seals for the axle are available. There are other sources for the rear end bearings. The link for those is here:

It'd be just too easy if those numbers helped identify the other axle bearings (and it probably won't), but at least now you have some additional info. AP/vic

thanks for the info djc and aqua. i have a single rear wheel not the dually .

gonna take a look into the charger parts.

Old post but completed. It's been years of noisy/howly/whinning/grinding from my rear end 2500 srw. Normally i'd try to fix it myself but wasn't up to the challange, Anyways, there is a driveline driveshaft repair place in Southern California that just did my rear differrential bearings, axle bearings and seals 1k. Unitrax. They know what they're doing, they got the fed ex contract. Look them up if your in need of differential work in the area. Anahiem, Anaheim at the 91/57 freeways. Time will tell but for now i'm very very pleased.
