Down and out in Mexico

My sprinter with 5000 miles on her is so doggy that I can rarely
get her out of 4th gear and I am not towing. I am positive the turbo
is not boosting. Also the transmission will not down shift for
acceration purposes. She will run through the gears all the way
to "D" from a stop even if you keep the rpms at 1000 and no way will
she downshift pushing the pedal to the floor. Fortunatley I can
and do manually shift where I need to be. If the turbo worked I
might even consider towing the toyota back home I towed down. Oh
one more miniscule problem that occurred concomittantly (the only
reason I mention it) is that the alarm now sounds when I open either
the driver or passenger door when normally it does not. The key is
out and lights turned off etc. Go figure?
Great rig when it works. So here I am 1100miles south of the border
near La Paz without a stich of luck finding some help. If any of you
have any ideas or can forward this email to someone who may be able
to help I would really appreciate it. She is absolutely no fun to
drive now and a fuel guzzler too boot. I have put about 150 miles on
her since this happened and only because I wanted to get her here to
my casita.
I have written my dealer in Washington state and have my fingers
crossed. This is a potentially big problem for anyone considering
buying one of these or any vehicle so dependent upon electronics
when traveling in Mexico. I'll bet there is not a scope in Mexico to
trouble shoot this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Scott
