first post, and thanks for being here. 158 tall 2003 psgr used for hauling books, 148k mi. broke a flexplate 600 mi from home (symptom: refusal to go over 2k rpm or 25mph; no downshift on I68; limped to Cumberland; towed to Hagerstown). after a day in the shop at Hagerstown Freightliner and a blown diagnosis (diagnosed EGR, which had just been replaced, and didn't read the code that pointed to flexplate), given estimate of $2600 and 5 days min for a flexplate/torque conv changeout. Thanks to Doktor A, diagnosis is pretty sure now.
I need a shop to get the parts and do the work; $540 for a blown diagnosis is enough evidence that I don't want Hagerstown to do the repairs. I'm told that Balto Freightliner is worse and Hagerstown is part of the Harrisburg Frtliner outfit. I'll have the van towed to wherever, and need suggestions as to who to call or input on where to go:
I'll call Chantilly Dodge Monday, but don't know if they can handle more than the routine. They worked with me last month and gave me the codes necessary for Doktor A to diagnose the bad EGR and bad turbo hose. If they don't have experience and can't get parts, where then?
All input gratefully appreciated; I'll be at the MD fairgrounds all day today before trying to get out of here tomorrow, and will read posts tonight.
thanks and best,
Chuck
