View Full Version : Oregon DMV Problems

Last month I got new tags for my 2003 Freightliner. Last week I got a letter from the DMV about the 2003. Of course, I could not understand the problem so today I went into the local DMV office. They did not know what the problem was, so they called VP3, whatever that is. VP3 said "Per manufacture on certain year models such as this need to be a make of "Sprinter" Need to submit title and $77.00 to remove the lien and correct the title." There has been no lien on that Sprinter since the note was paid off. I have had title to that Sprinter since Nov of 2007. If there was an error, it should have been detected before now.
Has anyone else in Oregon had problems with their Freightliner/Sprinter? I can hardly wait until someone in Salem notes that I have paid off the 2005 and have had the title changed.
Doug,
Here are a couple of threads on the subject.

I went to the local DMV this afternoon, and got the title changed, probably, maybe. Apparantly, the whole situation started when I tried to get new tags for the license plates last October. The tags had been changed before, but the DMV did not change the title at that time. In October, the tag request raised a flag or other indicator that the title had never been changed from Chrysler Daimler to me. Then the DMV decided that Freightliner Sprinters were not really a Freightliner, but a Spner or some other derivitive of Sprinter. When the lady at the local DMV saw me, she immeditaly called Salem (proof positive that I am special). The people in Salem had been waiting for my visit at the local DMV. In 7 weeks, I am supposed to get a clear title to my Spnr.
I love dealing with government agencies. I will not get my pillow and tie it to my head, so when I bang my head against the wall, no scars will be left.

Had the same problem. Someone decided tracking Dodge/Freightliner/MB was too hard and mandated a change to "Sprinter". And, of course, this is the owner's fault.

I am in Washington State and the lienholder on my Sprinter (04) is wondering where the title for my vehicle is as well. Every year I get the same confusion and each time the lienholder wants to tell me to do something to get the title.
I did not realize it's a bureaucratic issue all around.
HOW do I get a title to the lienholder for when I pay this vehicle off?
Thanks.:wtf:

I haven't been in that situation... but once it's paid i'd be sorely tempted to just file for/as a "lost title" and thus get a new one.
good luck

When I got hte FL problem taken care of, I specifically asked if I was going to have problems with the Dodge. I was told "No, they are different vehicles"
Dodge/Sprinter/MB/FL is not the first rebranding done. There was been Ford Ranger/Courier/Mazda, Dodge D50/Mitsubishi, Isuzu/GM trucks & others. Do suppose they have had problems also?

Maybe, I've got a Power Ram 50 as well. It's registered as a Mitsubishi.

In Arizona, the vehicle owner does not get the title until the lien is released. This was something they changed in '04 or so. So basically, I have no title to my van until the bank clears it.

I was under the impression that in Oregon there is an herb that is readily available and good for stress?

In my younger days, I tried that herb. I did not like it. I prefer a dark liqued made with certain grains and the herb known as hops.
That and bedeviling the grandchildren. I am not sure what my children think of my treatment of the grandchildren, possibly that I am getting senile.

The title is suppose to come from the previous owner or the previous bank that the van belonged to. If the van is indeed yours, the DMV should have a record of it and it's a matter of paying them to get a new one generated.

Well, the lienholder should have the title when you're still paying them. Once they are paid off, then they will send you the title.

Seek,
I think that varies state to state. In NYS you get a title which lists the liens. Once they are satisfied you get a letter from the lienholder and they inform the DMV that the loan is paid in full. In NYS I know you can request a new clear title, but it is unnecessary and there is a fee for a new one. vic
