I purchased the Riordan aluminum replacement for my Sprinter and found I do not have a resonator on my van.
It is brand new with instructions. I paid $89.95 plus $11.00 shipping.
I would at least like to get $85.00 for it, and I will ship it ground at my expense. (only in the continental U.S.). I have a paypal account or will accept U.S. Postal Service money order.

Thanks Topless. I received the replacement today and installed it.
I was quite intrigued by looking at the old one. It has a metal center tube with holes in it so that air (sound?) can be muffled in the larger chambers around the cneter tubing. It's altogether too bad the think fails under pressure. Sort of like me when I get in front of an audience.

So Bill, what's the noise difference like if any?

Hello Seek!
I had my 'Turbo Resonator' changed-out months ago...To DW and myself there isn't any noise difference and runs like a Gazelle...

Sorry, Seek, I didn't notice the question.
At first I thought there was no noise difference but Now I think there's a bit of "throatiness" on acceleration that I didn't hear before. It sounds pretty cool :rad: . Neither my wife nor I hear any whine from the turbine.

Do you mean to say that you hear no whine from the turbo, or no more than before? I hear the whine/whistle from mine and I have the stock turbo resonator... and pretty good hearing for a 45 year old (checked on Tuesday this week)...:D
Thanks,
KenB

Never have heard the turbo whine. Before I had other turbo-assisted engines and I heard the whine in those cars. My wife has better hearing that I do and she can't hear it in the Sprinter.

Which model years have the resonator and which ones do not?

Michigandon,
In answer to your question, late model 2004 through early model 2007 essentially any sprinter with the 2.7 liter diesel have the plastic resonators which are failing continually. Dodge seems to be telling people the latest ones do not fail but we have had customers who have had five failures in 30,000 miles before they learned about the Riordanco billet aluminum resonator eliminator. Of those, three of them were the claimed "latest" model resonators which "do not fail" according to SOME Dodge reps. The 2008 V-6 also has a plastic resonator and they do not seem to be having as big a problem.
Best regards, Jim Riordan

When the resonator fails does it just crack and everything stops running or is there a sound or something that can be noticed ahead of time?

The only symptom that I'm aware of is the van going into limp mode. It hasn't happened to mine yet and majority of the occurences happen on RV conversions.
It could either be a crack, misalignment, or straps came loose.

What Seek says.
The van deletes the turbo charger and runs in non-turbo-charged mode.
There is no forewarning. For us, we were going up hill and we just couldn't get past 45 mph. I thought "this hill isn't that steep, why isn't it down-shifting?" When I down-shifted, same thing: no power. I stopped at the side of the road and when I started out again the engine ran fine until the next hill. From then on until we go to the dealers we could drive about 10 minutes after stopping and starting the engine before the limp home recommenced.
The biggest thing about it is the emotional impact of not knowing what's going on and the fear that soemthing is getting really wrecked. It wouldn't bother me nearly as much if it ever happened again. Since I have the aluminum replacement pipe, it's not likely to happen again unless the thing pops out of the upper connection that doesn't have a clamp and is apparently not designed to have one.
