is there a charge (device) in the steering column that ignites in case of an accident? I am aware of the charges in the seat belts-pretensioners. Does anyone know if the airbag brain can be reset after a deployment or does it have to be replaced?

If the airbags have been deployed it is common practice (and I believe law?) that the airbag module be replaced. Yes there is a igniter in the drivers airbag, pass. airbag, pretensioners , side curtains(if equiped) Knee blocker (if equiped). Most newer systems have 2 firing (squib) circuits. That is for different deployment rates, based on severity of impact.
