I have a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500 and my question is in regard to resetting the ASSYST computer after maintenance has been performed. I changed oil and filter but could not locate any procedure in the manual that gave instructions for resetting the computer.

My Sprinter does NOT have steering wheel controls. Any help will be appreciated.

From what I know now, the ASSYST in NCV3's cannot be reset without a dealer electronic tool.

2007 NAFTA Sprinters have instructions for resetting ASSYST. They do not work on NAFTA Sprinters.
2008 NAFTA Owners Manuals omit those incorrect instructions.

qcable, I'm not aware of a cheap scan tool that will reset ASSYST on NAFTA NCV3 Sprinters.

You'll need to visit a Sprinter sales & service dealership or another shop that owns one of the following:

StarSCAN
StarMOBILE
WiTECH
N.V. ADS' CarSoft Ultimate Pro 3.0 for Mercedes Vehicles

A Sprinter Source member recently posted that Autologic's product is also able to reset ASSYST, but I have no other information besides their website:

http://www.autologic.us/autologic.html. This product is likely pretty spendy and sold by small businesses that want to sell the product to other smallish, independent auto repair shops on a budget; just like SnapON and MAC tools. By "sold by small businesses," I mean the Autologic Dealer in Seattle is a person's name, not a business name.

I don't think Autologic's gonna be cheap. I don't think it's product target is a home owner or the owner of a single Sprinter.

PS:StarSCAN, StarMOBILE and WiTECH are only for NCV3 Sprinters. Carsoft Ultimate Pro 3.0 works with both T1N and NCV3 Sprinters. Autologic's website speaks for itself.

Thanks for all the replys regarding the ASSYST computer reset. My 2008 manual does not have any information about it, other than to say that it must be reset by a dealer. The dealer provided me with 2 different procedures, printed from the dealership computer. Neither of those procedures work.

Since there are so many of these vehicles on the road now it would seem that MB or Chrysler would provide a simple way to reset them. The closest Sprinter dealer is 175 miles away, in Anchorage, and I hesitate to make that trip just to reset the computer.

Thanks again for the info.

I have not read about any operational issues as a result ASSYST not being reset. You do lose the computer monitored oil change interval extension. You get to watch the negative mileage countdown to remind you that they didn't give you the ability to reset it as an owner/operator.:bash: AP/vic

I was told by a TECH AID that you can reset by disconnecting the batt. I personally haven't tried it yet
( no need dealer has the scan tools) but why not? off to the right of the accelerator pedal there is a battery quick disconnect, release the lock and slide off the post, now count to 10 (sec) re-connect and let me know if that worked. :smilewink:
P.S. you might have to re-program your radio (ie.presets and clock )

We don't have the luxury of oil extention on the NCV3.

That's how I used to have to reset my fuel guage.

But no reset on the ASSYST when I did it.

I received similar instructions from a Seattle dealership just before my 20,000 service.... the difference was 30 seconds of disconnect. Oh, one other difference: they said "Sprinter Support" gave them the battery disconnect instructions.

It didn't reset ASSYST and it didn't reset my radio presets, either.

I tried a couple of times and then I just used StarMOBILE.

PS: Carl, if you can provide NCV3-owning forum members with a solution that works, you'd be a real hero.
