i've only been to the dealer 1 time for the recall and actually had a good experience from glen e thomas in long beach. since i didn't have to pay anything, i can't say if i would use them for off warranty work.
but i can tell you the service writer, parts counter guy and the tech were all nice and professional. came in on a saturday with no appointment and was out in under an hour.
i too am in wla. so if you do find a winner, please post it.

Hey Rick, thanks for the info. What was the recall and what year Van do you have?

Yes, Glen Thomas is probably the closest dealer. Get there early since they usually have repair appointments lining up before opening, first come first serve.

Reply to pm from Jon Nelson,
Owning a Mercedes product without a warranty for the big things can be costly.
The factory 3 yr. 36k mile is gone, the best supplement is Chrysler maxi care, a Dodge dealer would have to service this plan.
Either way the newest Sprinter dealership in our area may end up being one of the best, Mercedes Benz of Long Beach, Herb Luger is the manager.
Right next door is Glenn Thomas Dodge, where they still service Sprinters sold as Dodges, I custom ordered my 2007 from Herb when he was the Sprinter sales manager of Glenn Thomas Dodge.
Hope this makes sense. Gary
I will also post this on open forum.

Hi Gary
Interesting to see LB Mercedes coming on board.
Is Herb going to be the service manager?
Would you now choose LB to service your van over the Anaheim facility?
I came very close to buying my 144 from Herb, but they couldn't find what I needed.
Thanks
Mrdi
Answer to a pm from Mrdi:
It's really great to have choices.
Caliber is excellent but with Herb sales manager@ Sprinter LB Mercedes they are closer and easier for me, I purchased mine from Herb @ Glenn Thomas and can not find fault with either dealership. During the original factory warranty you have the option of Dodge or Mercedes for issues.
The factory warranty on my 07 expired last November but I have a 4 year Chrysler extended warranty so Glenn Thomas Dodge will be my servicing dealer for problems and I will always do my own accelerated maintenance.

I also live near LA and I am in need a of Sprinter mechanic. However, I really don't want to go to a dealership. Does anyone know of a smaller repair shop or someone working out of their garage that specializes in Sprinters, or at least has some knowledge of them? I'm willing to drive anywhere in California for such a person.
thanks,
Lee
