Yesterday I finally removed the seat so I could check the battery. I thought I would pass on something I discovered that made the removing of the seat a lot simpler than I thought it would be.

For those who haven't looked at the situation, the thing that has to be removed is the metal plate that sits immediately on top of the battery box. This plate has 6 Torx screws, 3 on each side. The front and back ones can be reached by simply sliding the seat fore and aft. The middle ones on each side were the puzzle.

Then I discovered a round hole in the tail of the rotating platform. This hole aligns perfectly with the two problematic screws when you rotate the seat appropriately.

Howdy Bill -

In my experience there are a couple of different rotating seat hardware types.

Maybe it would be worth posting photos so we can understand what those different types are and help folks to both distinguish the types (ie buy one for install in their Sprinter that would work best for them) and learn how best to use the type they do have?

When I get the chance I will try to post pictures and discussion concerning the Westfalia rotating seats.

I thought I had posted this before  - but it seems to be gone: This is for the SportsCraft swivel seat mount:

You did, except it's in the Interior section of Accessories.

I couldn't search for it because swivel is spelled wrong in the subject line and in the body. It is spelled correctly in the link, but search didn't find it.

Hi Guys -

I just corrected the spelling on this so it could be more easily found by all.

Photos to clarify the removal of the rotating passenger seat in an LTV Free Spirit. This method will work for any van that has the same platform.

Because you are going to rotate the seat, you need to have it if the full-forward position.

Then you can rotate the seat to remove the Torx screws that hold the platform down onto the battery case.

By maneuvering the hold in the seat flange over the middle Torx screw on eithier side, you can remove those. When you have removed all 6 Torx screws, get some assistance in removing the seat. It may not be too heavy for you to handle, but it's an awkward thing and you could damage cabinetry or your floor if you have no help. Put a carpet or tarp on the floor before you remove the seat.

Question for anyone that has added the swivel seat to an 06 or earlier. I like being able to slide the passenger seat forward and keep some stuff under there along with the aux. battery. Will i lose the ability to easily gain access to this area with the swivel seat?

I think so.
