In a previous thread on Water System Stuff... I was pursuing best options and tips on using my RV in Winter.

My work has a contract I need to manage in Scranton, PA ... a long way from Southern California where I live, but I am going to take my "Magic Bus"... (pleasure-way Sprinter) up there into the cold and snow. Not to live in, but as transportation. Hilton has a nice hotel up there! :clapping:

So, in researching cold weather RV stuff, I mostly get information about storage of the RV in Winter, not as much about operating it. It seems best to blow out the water system and then load it with food grade antifreeze (propylene glycol) and about 1 to 3 ratio with water.

We dont use the water system to live on except for the restroom. We dont shower, or drink the water from the sink.

Any tips or proven solutions would be helpful.

thank you,

Walmart sells RV antifreeze that is premixed, comes in gallon jugs, not harmful, and is cheap :smilewink:. If you have a filter for drinking water take it out of the system as the antifreeze is not friends with it.

Not being familiar with your MH it is hard to be specific, but in general if you are going to pump it in the pink stuff(RV antifreeze) blowing the lines out is not necessary.

You may or may not have a bypass route on your hot water heater. If not they are easy to install and prevents having to fill the heater with antifreeze to get to the hot water lines.

Make sure you pour antifreeze into all of your sink and shower drains...Don't forget the shower.

Can you drain ALL of the water from your fresh water tank? If not consider some pink stuff there as well.

There are also kits available that allow you to pump straight for the jug.

If you choose to blow the lines out beware of low spots with elbows or U's that turn up where residual water can run back into. Blowing the lines out is acceptable if you can get all the water. You still have to do the traps. RV shops have a snifter(?) type valve that screws into your city water connection and allows standard air fittings to be hooked up.

I'm sure there is more...If I think of anything else I will post it up.

I'm OK with you not drinking out of the sink, but...You really do need to take a shower...

A guy I know always winterized his sailboat water system with cheap vodka for winter storage. He claimed it was cheaper than the proper anti-freeze and didn't have a funny taste. I think the real reason was that every Spring when it was time to get the boat back in service we would bring some olives and fruit juice to help empty the tanks of that foul mixture. He did it for years and years. I know this reply didn't help much, but maybe you'll find it somewhat fun, as we always did actually. vic
