New to the forum but more importantly ...NEW TO SPRINTERS!!! Just saying "Hi" and asking the first of many questions I'm sure. After looking at the Sprinter for a couple of years I finally couldn't stand it anymore and bought an 07 170 cargo van that I'm in the process of converting to an RV.

While crawling underneath the van and looking for a good place to mount a 20 to 30 gallon holding tank I was checking out the spare tire and thinking of what a hassle it would be if you ever had to get to that thing ... and even worse of putting a flat back into it. So an idea popped into mind and I took some measurements and found that if you removed the spare tire and relocated it I could easily mount a holding tank measuring at least 10" by 24" by 24" tank there using the spare tire rack hardware already in place (and reinforcing it after it was installed). I found some about that size that would hold 25 to 30 gallons. Does anybody see any problems with this idea and/or has anybody already done something similar?

Also while lurking through the forums I saw some pics of a hitch mounted swing down continental spare tire rack. Does anybody now of a source for something like this, it's a great looking setup.

One last question, while looking at the video section I saw the video of the fold up shower that is exactly what I've been looking for to incorporate into my design. Anybody know of a source for something like this?

Thanks in advance for any answers that can be offered and this forum is a gold mine for Sprinter owners or wannabes.

Go to the search forums (advanced) and look for posts from Bulbasor about his shower.
I think this is the thread: http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1550&highlight=shower

As for the spare tire deal, I think it was my photos you saw. I don't think it's actually a part of the trailer hitch. It came from Leisure Travel the way it is. The is the thread where I tell all I know. A call to Leisure Travel might help, but it's probably a Canada supplier.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum.

Unik, for your spare tire place you can borrow an idea from Leisure Travel. You can build a "basement" with access from the top. You can keep some of your dive gear in there.

But those tires are heavy mothers. Do you think the hinges were designed to support that kind of weight? Maybe instead build a holder like the one in the pictures I posted?
