I've been meaning to post this for some time..... I received a copy of this shortly after I took delivery of my Sprinter.

The attached PDF describes the MOPAR part numbers required to make the hands-free phone system work.

It assumes you have a vehicle equipped with Cell phone Wiring Prep (Code XFV).

Thanks that was the info I needed. What will the cost be approximately?

It depends on the parts you order and the labor costs.

68040761AA Control Module, hands-free phone <- mandatory

pick one... they probably have different costs

68040614AA MHI Cradle Nokia 6230
68040615AA MHI Cradle Motorola SLVR L7
68040616AA MHI Cradle V330 / V551 / V557 / V600
68040617AA MHI Cradle Motorola RAZR V3 / V3i
68040417AA MHI Cradle Motorola V710 / E815
68040380AA Bluetooth Interface Module

I'd have it done at a dealership. Unfortunately, I - and the sales guy - did not know that sales code XFV (Cell phone wiring prep) was both needed and specifically not included with the "Sound 20 (with telephone connection).

My vehicle's build lacks XFV. Therefore my wiring harness is "wrong," and XFV can't be "retrofitted," according to my dealership.

Check the price of the part numbers and labor for the procedure with your dealership.

PS: you may have to show the dealership that document.

i also have been trying to find out how to get the hands free working properly. my dealership is so clueless that they claim it can't be done. I have a sound 20 system too with a factory changer. can a ipod/ or sat radio be wired into the factory unit?

Dodge dealer looked up one of these and says...

SLVR L7 68040615AA - $495.52

Contact forum member Chris Case (SprinterUK). He may be able to get you the part for considerably cheaper (as he was able to provide the cruise control retro-fit for a fraction of the Dodge price).

The part number cross reference (http://starparts.chrysler.com/home/ChryMB.pdf)says that

Mopar 68040615AA maps to MB "B 6 7 87 5874" (which looks really funky to me, but I'm not an MB expert).

PS: If you didn't get "Cell Phone Wiring Prep" it might not be worth going factory. BlueTooth and aftermarket might be a better option.

This firm has many products that will do for your needs.

I personnaly have found the hands-free phone systems in the past to be limited in there abilitys to truely make handsfree phone use really worthwhile. The last one a tried was the Motorola HF1000 and it was the best of them so far, but still lacking for me.

Thanks Jon, I sent Chris an email. I do have the Wiring Prep and this includes some kind of cell phone mount just right of the steering wheel that is attached to the dash. I think
all I need is the matching cradle? I'm still confused about the 68040761AA Control Module though, I haven't been able to find any pictures so verify what this
is or where it might be installed.

My thinking is that since I have a compatible phone on a prepaid plan that I keep around as a backup phone, it could be low hanging fruit to get
a little extra functionality out of the stock sound system. If the cradle charges the phone and attaches it to the GSM antenna, keeping the spare
phone right there as a backup communications device would be great.
