sikwan, to me there is no such thing as too many bikes, but my wife says 10 is the absolute limit, hence I have 10. My 14 year old son's motorcycles are also included in the list.

Unimog, when you get your Sprinter please post photos, I'll post pics when I get mine. I thought my MSRP was expensive! Before the +\- 8% price increase I was already past my limit but I'm planning on keeping my new van for 10 years.

Finalized the deal on the new sprinter today so I can get the deal in before the sales tax hike Jan 1, 08. Van is now in route from Florida to dealer in Maryland and will arrive in a few days. Also was able to get the dealer to include a swap out of wheels with the optional aluminum rims from another van on the lot. Those rims look great. This will make the van have essentially all available options on it and listed for almost 60K. Dealer sold it for 300 dollars over invoice. Now i need to search for parts to convert to travel van.

I agree, there's no such thing as two many motorcycles....I've got 17, (only one street bike, a Yammie 750 Special which is for sale) I think a Sprinter would look real good with my YZ450F and WR450F inside, not to mention a small furnace, fold down bed, microwave, coffee pot, inverter, LCD TV, DVD player, killer stereo, underslung air tank and bike gas tank, etc

Khoren,
you may want to think twice about the 4:10 axle ratio; read the many posts here about this issue. Unless you will have a big payload in your van and will not do alot of highway driving, you should probably go with the lower gear ratio.

My Freightliner dealer has finally confirmed that the passenger van ordered in August is on a truck on the way from Florida to Maryland and it is expected to be here by Monday. So next week will be driving the Sprinter. The ordering system really sucks and very difficult to get updates on status. People that want to buy a Sprinter must to be a very didicated lot to put up with this. I will post some pictures of it next week and will report on some of the options that never are seen on the dealer ordered vans.

Well I wish I had good news, but here’s the story: I put my order in for a 2008 Sprinter 170” w/b Ext on Oct 24, 2007. See my first post for the details. The order was processed by the dealer on November 13, 2007 and the dealer said that the van would be delivered in April 2008. The delivery date is important because we are using the van for our family “out west” vacation which begins on June 19, 2008. After a couple calls to the dealer, they still could not update the delivery date. On Wednesday March 12, 2008 the dealer finally called me to update the delivery date: July 17, 2008! So I asked if I could possibly buy a van off the lot instead of waiting for the van I ordered. He thought that on of the vans in the lot would work. The dealer has no 170” w/b Ext vans at all, so I asked for a regular 170 with the B option package. The dealer does not keep any vans in stock with the B option package, only A. After doing a web search on the Dodge web site I found a van that I could live with so I asked the dealer to cancel my order and give me back my deposit. He said that he could not cancel the order and I was obligated to take delivery of the van in July. I need the van for June 19, 2008. He said that Daimler Trucks would not let him cancel the order (BS). From the order date when I gave the dealer a depost it is going to take almost 9 monthes. I’m going to the dealer Monday to discuss this mess, any thoughts?

You probably cannot cancel the order because it's already in the system, but I would think if you're buying from that dealer they should let you slide as long as you didn't order something they couldn't sell, ie., gasoline engine.

Did they ask you for a deposit and how much was it?

Systems are something every one should have. Pepsi owed us a rebate and whenever we called and asked where it was we were told it was in the system. Now they owe us a rebate and end of year bonus...it's in the system. Looks like whenever a large corp. wants to hide something or do it their way, it's "in the system".

A reputable dealer would accomodate you , he could trade with another dealer. He could also find a vehicle just about the way you want it.
Do you have any idea how many Sprinters there are in stock in USA? I'd say thousands, maybe 3-4m. One dealer in Skokie Il. had 153 when I checked the web a few days ago.

No problem - looks like the dealer is in breech of contract they "verbally" told you Oct 24, 2007, and they did not deliver AS PROMISED, so no problem with getting your money back. Dealers can't keep you waiting indefinitely for product.
Secondly had you known it would be July you would not have ordered the unit, so again they did not negotiate the contract fairly.

Thirdly you have lost 8 months of use of your vehicle due to their incompetence.

This case is a slam dunk.

I'm not a lawyer, I don't even play one on TV.

The story of my almost-purchase of an '03 is similar. I ordered from a Dodge dealer in Pennsylvania and told him that timing was critical for me. He assured me that I would have the van in time. While I had no written contract saying that, I did have emails back and forth making that point.

When the van was delayed, I waited as long as I could (the critical timing was that we were moving from Maryland to Oregon) but then bailed out of the deal and asked for my deposit back. Deposit cheerfully refunded and I reordered an '04 a few days later from a dealer in Oregon, where I was moving. Timing on that one was not critical.

The dealer may not be able to cancel the order, but so what? He can still sell it to another customer.

After searching on the Dodge website for a Sprinter van that would accommodate our needs, I have decided to wait for the van I ordered. I plan on keeping the van for 10 years so I can wait a couple extra months. If it is delivered on July 17, 2008, it will have taken almost 9 months from the time of order to delivery. As for the family vacation on June 19th (to the Grand Canyon and several other points very far west of New Jersey) we will be driving “old dependable”, my 2000 Ford E-250 supervan which I purchased new. Driving the Ford does not worry me, the van has been the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned but it does have 190,000 miles on the clock. The Ford gets about 13 MPG. I will be going over the van completely before the trip and packing a spares kit. Taking delivery of the 2008 Sprinter in July also gives me an excuse to take another road trip in August, possibly to Parc de Mont-Tremblant in Quebec Canada.

My van arrived on Friday July 18, 2008 and I took delivery on Wednesday July 23. Almost 9 monthes from the time of order. I have only driven the van 150 miles of short trips and the computer says I'm getting 18 mpg. Here's a picture in my driveway:

It is the nicest 4 wheel vehicle I have ever owned, expensive but worth it. I'll post more pictures soon.
