Hi everyone, I'm a new member here and about to take possesion of my 07 Sprinter next week. I've been scanning the boards looking for any custom paint schemes and have not seen too many. So I thought maybe this would be a good place to post some photos and give me and others ideas for future customizing.

Thanks

Gerry

Welcome, Gerry!

I have a '04 and thought about this quite a bit. I first ordered a Brilliant Silver metallic, then changed to plain white with the intention of trying to do a two-tone paint job. I did not much like the plastic bumpers on the older Sprinter, so thought of painting just the plastic -- I suppose I could have done the bumpers in white for a monochromatic look.

But I was inspired by the amazing job that Danny Steyn did on his windsurfing van, converting it from refrigerator white to silver/gray metallic. More photos can be seen at www.steynfamily.com
Danny was one of the pioneers in the USA of the dressed-up Sprinter. There are also some amazing paint jobs at www.sprinter-forum.de (in German.)

Now that I look back at that I realize that Danny did not have the plastic bumpers painted, but chose a gray color for the lower body that, while not an exact match, blends pretty well with the bumpers.

I got the effect I wanted. See attached photos. The bumpers were done with a color-matched pickup bed liner material for extra durability and it is not an exact match to the paint due to the different texture, but I thought it close enough.

I tired several body shops and was told the plastic was unpaintable by some but kept looking. The cost ended up at $2,500 materials and labor -- not cheap, but I rationalize that I "saved" about $900 by not ordering metallic paint. The paint job is now 2.5 years old and is holding up well.

With your new gen Sprinter, the plastic bumpers are visually tied together better because of the wide plastic lower bodyside molding. But I like my two-tone so well that, if I were to replace my Sprinter with a new one, I think I'd bite the bullet and do a similar scheme with the new one as well.

Gee, Gerry, we've seen a whole lot of photos of vans with stick-on designs/signs/billboards and so on. Or are you talking about paint only?

Larry, thanks for the photos. Your white/blue paint scheme looks great, but I'm really impressed with the Grey/silver one. It looks very classy.

I did look at the German Sprinter site, but mein deutsch ist schlect and I couldn't find a photo section!

Bill, yes I'm looking at paint jobs as an idea to customize mine, not so much commercial vehicle advertising.

That's a nice paint (or decal) job that HMR TYM has.

Danny's does indeed look classy -- and the photo I posted was only the beginning.... he has since further fixed it up with wheels and a Mercedes badge upgrade, etc.

The photo section at the German Sprinter site is "Galerie." Once you're there you see a listing on the left side of the page. There are categories -- camper, cargo, passenger, etc., but you will probably want to look at 'em all.

Good luck on your search for ideas. Keep us posted!

Welcome Gerry.

Look in the picture section (http://sprinter-source.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=29) and/or do a search for users Rennsprinter or Johnny. You'll see some examples of painting schemes.

Larry & Sik, thanks for the links, boy oh boy, I could spend hours on the German site looking at photos.

I can hardly wait to fly to Portland on Tuesday to pick up my Sprinter:drool:

I always thought a nice dark brown would be nice...I think it would enable me to park anywhere I wanted.

Hi :smilewink:
To me personally i like the bicolor on Sprinter; I do not know how you call that light color around bronze also seen many times on cars Mercedes Benz .:hmmm: I think that is very well color matched to white  another possibility that I like is white with a light strange gray metal, but i prefer the first one.
But the paint on the sides i prefer to see the bumper height and not too high ;In this way I think it is more elegant.
i like that of Baywoodbill color (down in the photo) good combination of colors
Many times I thought to do this combination on my Sprinter (only bumpers),:idunno:
