With smoked windows, webasto heater, and comfort in a chair its the perfect people watcher.

Yesterday I got up at 4 am and loaded up 25 gallons of WVO for a drive to Seattle. Raced on a Megles 24 15 miles in a 20 knot southerly. Was frozen to the bone afterwards, but the webasto did what its supposed to .

On the way back I stopped at a rest area and cooked some soup in the van. As I sat in my lawn chair in the back eating soup listening to the hum of the webasto I watched the activities of people in the rest stop.

Pan handlers in rest stops got it figured out. They make a killing. I was there for a half hr and for every 3 people that stopped and got out of their vehicle the pan handlers got money from 1 out of 3. In one half hour there must have been 50 people that stopped. There was 5 of them out of one vehicle that took turns.

I am loving my sprinter more and more

15 miles in 20 kts in a Melges.
7 knots to the pin
12 knots coming back?
Soaking the entire way.
A 1.5 hour race?

I was a long distance race. So about 3 miles up around a bouy all on port tack. Then 5 miles across the sound on a jib reach, then another 5 miles back across the sound on a jib reach. Then 2 miles up wind.

By the time we got to the 2 mile slog up wind the chop had really developed because the north bound ebb went away. Not great conditions for a melgi
