View Full Version : New Kitchen Drawer

My unit is a 2009 Chateau Citation, but this mod could help others with the Dometic stove. The kitchen cabinet came with a tilt out drawer front below the stove similar to a tilt out below a sink with a little bin to hold a small item or two. When you look under the stove there is actually a lot of room there and the components of the stove do not stick down much.

I built a drawer box the same size as the two original drawers below and added some inside cabinet structure to support the new drawer slides. To allow for the stove parts I cut out the drawer back a little as needed, but there is still plenty of room in the drawer. I used dovetail corners because I like doing them, but that is not necessary -- just make a simple drawer box. I included slots to accommodate a partition or two. Then I just reused what had been the tilt down to make the drawer front. This is a very nice mod making this otherwise wasted space quite useful.

Ed, Excellent job. I've been thinking of what to do with that wasted little tip-out drawer and you solved my problem. Thanks!

Thanks. I am glad this was useful. By the way, if you don't want to build your own drawer box you can buy them custom made from Rockler Woodworking (rockler.com) sized to your exact dimensions.

Hi Ed,
I'm getting ready to start the drawer project you introduced and have a few questions:
Do you have a brand name of the drawer slide you bought? Where did you purchase? Dimensions of the slides? It also looks like you included some locks at the edge of the drawer, is there a specific brand or style you bought?

Thanks a million!

Sorry it has taken so long to reply. I bought the slides at Ace. My unit is in storage, so I can't measure, but I used the same length as the factory drawers. There is a latch in the center on the front. It is just like the factory ones and apparently a standard sort of part. I bought it at Camping World.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for the information. Very helpful. Also looks like you extended the frame that supports the slides for the the bottom two drawers, then attached the new slides to it instead of the common wall with refrig.

Nice work.
