I've just completed a new project for my two cats. Created an access crawl space under bed so critters can get from rig to storage space under bed. Will attach photos to show views from inside and outside rig. Made a walled-in tunnel with a standard pet door closure located in storage space. Created custom closure for tunnel opening on living space side. Attached photos show view from above, with bed removed. Will post more shots later.

Here are two more pics from the outside looking in. The last photo shows a change I made to the access door for water tank. Has nothing to do with cats, I just got tired of removing the four screws each time I wanted to drain H2O.

Just the thing I need for my pet Devil:clapping:

I like your idea, but wonder what type of RV you have. It looks like you have a built-in access door from the outside. I just have a regular Sprinter cargo van...a short one at that.

I may need to bring at least one cat along on an adventure if I can't get a cat sitter. I've been wondering about how do design a place for a cat carrier and possible cat box (although the thought of having a cat box in the van seems pretty disgusting). Has anyone with a regular cargo van brought a cat or two with them while traveling and if so, what you have done to accommodate them.

Thanks!

Kat

Yep, my rig is a B+ camper, so I do have an external access door. It is in the back, right-hand side and provides access to the compartment locted under the bed. Attached is a photo of my rig. Best of luck finding a good solution for your van.

Ah, LUCKY YOU! You got the Sprinter RV...all finished out, with STRAIGHT walls, external access hatch, no major conversion required. And thanks for the well wishes on finding a solution for the cat(s) for a plain old cargo type Sprinter.

Working Retired....so how is traveling with the feline working for you ? My wife and I take delivery of a 2011 PW Plateau TS sometime in the next week (our first). We have two adolesent furry 'kids' that we'd never leave behind, and we're still trying to figure out 'the box' arrangement.

Since one, Chalupa, is 18 lbs, it has to be a larger than normal box. (guess that's what we get for naming her after a deep fat fried food). Anyway, the best arrangement we can figure is in the back during the day time and up front at night.

BTW Kat, you are a braver person than me......just mounting the rear view camera is a little scary.

So far, so good. Spent a lot of time getting them used to being in the rig before going anywhere. Got both cats "chipped" at vet's office and bought harnesses for them. However, they howl once we get on the road ... for the first few hours. Bottom line, they aren't dogs but we still love 'em.

My van conversion isn't done yet so don't know how my cat(s) will react; but since they are older cats, I think they will freak out. I expect it would be much easier to start out traveling with kittens.

Anyhow, my parents had two Maine Coon cats that went everywhere with them in their RV. The cats didn't mind it at all, and they didn't have special carriers; just a cat box in the shower. They kept harnesses on the cats when they traveled and attached a leash when they were in camp.

I hope your cats adapt to traveling!

Maine Coons? Wow, those are monsters, and great animals. Will let you know how we fare.

I have a class B but what I have found is the pine litter is best for no stink as long as you change it regularly and wherever you put the box, cats need head room to do their business. I have built a box to raise the level of my bed in the back and hopefully that will give my cats the required headroom.

Where do you get pine litter?
