View Full Version : Re Transmission leak
I have a 2006 2500 Sprinter, with a transmission leak. The dealer said its a plactic O ring on some type of electrical pulg going into the transmission. At first look the service writter said it would be about a 45 min job and $130 repair. The mechanic said he can not get the screw out that holds the pulg in, it just turns. Now the job went to $950. and they need to change parts in side the transmisssion. I had the transmission flush at this dealership about 60 days ago. Could this have caused the current problem? Any help or advise?
Thanks
Ray

Leaks from the transmission sensor hole were a fairly common topic over the years.
Here's one example post: http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showpost.php?p=110267&postcount=1
Here's a very germane thread, with photos:

Then look at this thread, starting at message 7:
http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6937
And there's always Doktor A (in Pennsylvania):
The Doktor A Sprinter Hotline is 412-366-6165. Andy (Dr. A) Bittenbinder
ADDED: the little set-screw is *supposed* to "just spin". It doesn't come out of its hole.
This quote is from that "germane" thread cited above:
The socket is retained by a small bronze bolt with a 7mm head. A small 1/4" drive socket and extension will easily loosen the bolt-it will not fall out-it's retained in the socket.
You might do well to PRINT abittenbinder's photo essay from that thread and bring it in to the dealer.
(Andy recommends pro-actively replacing the O-ring when a transmission refill is performed)
good luck
