I went to Town & Country Chrysler (aka T & C Jeep) - in Seattle on Aurora Ave - to pick up some Mobil 1 ESP engine oil yesterday.

In case anyone's wondering what the product should look like, this is it.

Note that the MOPAR part number is scribbled on the Mobil Oil-branded bottle. Usually MOPAR's fluids are shipped in a MOPAR-branded container.

The parts department computer showed it in stock, but the inventory had to be manually perused to find the bottles. Every container in the stock room had a MOPAR part number scrawled on it.

As an aside, this parts department is staffed with the friendliest parts counter people I've ever met. Consider awarding your business tothem if you are in Seattle and willing to spend the price premium on fluids to reward their attitude and superior customer relation practices.

PS: On 11 June 2007, Mobil created (finally) a spec sheet for the product that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep are passing off as MOPAR Part Number 68001334AA
Spec sheet and photos are attached. I preserved Mobil's spec sheet PDF file name.

My dealer has the same thing and they want over $8 bucks a quart for it. I wanted the 10w 40 Mobil One but they don't have it so I settled for 0w 40 Mobil One for $6.09 a quart

the owners manual states that to meet MB 229.5 the Mobil designation is Mobil 1 ESP Formula MB. Found this on AV oils website where it is also confirmed that it meets 229.5 specs.

I would double check the owners manual, I think that you will find that the oil must meet 229.51, The 1 meaning that it is LOW ASH oil.

Low SPlash oil must be used to prevent premature failure of the DPF

Yes, it does say 229.51. I am in Northern California and the dealer wants $11.80 per quart. Oil-$160.00 , oil filter-$36.00, socket to remove the oil filter canister cap-$20.00 (+ shipping). No more singing "Lord I'm goin' to buy me a Mercedes Benz"-priceless.

P.S.
Anyone know where I can buy the oil, other than the dealer?

Heres one for you, I asked about the specs, you know the .51 and .31 I think because I did see the esp oil, the dealer puts in the rgular mobil 1 stuff (229.5 229.3) but in my owners manual it says (229.51 229.31)for the diesel, they scare me up here in London Ontario! So I guess you guys are saying I should forget them and go to that esp formula! Oh food for though, fuel filter at dodge is $130 here and $75 at mercedes, air filter is cheaper at mercedes but must be ordered, oile filter is 22 instead of 33! Oil seems to be a few dollars cheaper also!

:bash:The price COULD be different because the one filter comes with the water sensor. Thats what happen to me here ind Maple Ridge Dodge, in BC. Canada

Recently I learned that - for diesel equipped MB-USA, LLC cars and SUVs - the water sensor / fuel filter combo is an OPTION.

My Sprinter didn't mention having an optional water sensor/fuel filter, so until recently, I figured it was standard across the MB line-up.

If you get a fuel filter from MB you probably want the one for vehicles with the 'optional' water sensor. I think I'd get the Dodge part the first time and make sure you know you're getting the MB-USA, LLC (or MB-Canada) equivalent.

I took my 2008 2500 in this week for the 10K mile check up (I couldn't find the recommended oil at any of the usual places and then ran out of time or I would have done this myself). They put in the 68001334-AA 5W30 oil, so I am guessing that is the Mobil 1 ESP - $7.81 per quart. Oil and filter change was $140; fuel filter replacement was $230 and rotating tires was $25 (springfield va). Oh and they did reset the maintenance reminder.

When I checked the dip stick yesterday, the oil looks much darker then the motor oil I am used to seeing. Is this typical for diesel engine motor oils?

Here's what I did last week. I purchased all my filters over the web - fuel and oil, then I took in my own oil, and told the service writer I want an oil and fuel filter change, and use my stuff.

When it came time to pay he said the whole job was free WHAT , and I do mean WHAT!!!!!

He said i had some service "bonus" points and that paid for it. , AGAIN WHAT.

Then when I got in they didn't use my filters they used their own filters, when I brought it to his attention he yelled at the service tech for not using my filters, thereby losing in the deal the price of their filters. I said here just keep my filters this way no one gets in trouble.

Changed the oil yesterday at 10,000 miles using Mobil 1 ESP formular M. Purchased the filters from euro parts. Easy to do but you have to remove filter housing and base plate under the filter to get access to the fuel fuel filter. Used new spring loaded hose clamps for the two fuel lines. Lots of oil is needed to the fill mark ie 13 quarts. No need to air out the fuel filter. Runs a little rough at first and then clears up. Frits
