After kissing many toads over several months I arrived home this morning with a prince - Nov '06 311CDI long and tall, 6 speed manual. 1200km trip to get it home gave me a chance to get to know the beast a bit. It had only done 68,000kms until yesterday.
Giving it a bit of stick on the first leg returned 544km for 56 litres (10.36 l/100).
Driving for economy returned 677km for 64.2 litres (9.48 l/100).
The bones in my scrawny bum were looking for something softer to sit on, and my long legs want some support under the thighs. I'll play around with a sheepskin to find an arrangement I can sit on all day.
I'm now more certain than before that the Sprinter was the right choice. The only addition I'd like is cruise control.
cheers

Reminds me of Toad hall.
However congratulations on buying your Sprinter.
Now your fuel consumption is poor very poor.
How would you like to get 1000 K's on 78 liters on a hill or coastal run ,averaging high six's per 100/klm
read second page on this link Winters in My Heart (http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3965)
Your van.. If you keep the foot off the turbo on foot-rot flats or, flat tracking it up through the glass house mountains of Beerwar Queensland. you can achieve what I consistently get 29Mpg to 33 Mpg U.S
There is more to it but the thread will show you what I am getting with a 313 cdi manual.
Sheep skin seat covers yes perfect.I'm on to my second set after five years on the first set.
Fabulous in the Queensland heat nice and cool.
Adjust the drivers back support to suite and the base seat for best support.
Richard.

Still can't match your fuel economy Richard but expect a further improvement when I next change the oil.
Took the race car down to Newcastle last weekend for the final round of the NSW Hillclimb Championship. Raining all the way, blowing like a banshee, so cruised along at about 95kph. Returned 8.9 litres per 100km with diesel bought from anywhere that was cheap. 1800km round trip carrying about 800kgs.
Knew to expect some buffeting from cross winds but had real difficulty on Friday afternoon. Found out later that those winds had reached 100kph so it's surprising I stayed on the road at all. Trees blown over etc.
I am so happy with this Sprinter.

If you went the other way ,you'd have been in the low 6's matching 95KLm with 100KLmn winds in your favor....Theatricality of course.:smilewink:
Cheers Richard

Mike,
Thick sheep skin seat covers are the go. SWMBO bought a pair for our Sprinter for $249 at Super Ch... they are great.

Thanks Peter, they are on my list. For the Newcastle trip I sat on a baby's sheepskin and it made a hell of a difference.

Mike-It sounds like your going to be putting on a lot of k's.I would advise you try and find a suspension seat. You wouldn't believe the improvement.
I'll never be with out one!
Sadly-you will have to get 2.Otherwise you will have to contend with pissed off passengers!:bounce:
